My wife loves this board because I burden you guys with my thoughts on LU athletics and not her anymore! She's very happy!

The joys of being a single student-no wife/gf to get mad at me for spending time on here...but as for the hockey rink, I'll believe it when I see it. F03 we were told they were converting the Schilling, S04 its going into Ericcson-and by F05 they're building one on East Campus somewhere. Seriously I doubt I'll ever see a rink on campus before I graduate...of course we could kinda change it up with the Vines like other places and let the team play there...just move the Men's Basketball Team to the Schilling until they EARN the right to return to the Vines (i.e. more out of conference wins and another conference title).

There is now a big sign next to the gravel lot at the Ericsson building with a picture of the new ice arena on it. I guess that's where they decided to put it. Whoever it was that was offering to take pictures around campus for the board, could you get a picture of the sign so that everyone has a chance to see what the arena will look like? I'm too lazy to do it myself.

Yes, but there was also a sign showing the new Thomas Road Baptist Church before we took over Ericsson...I refuse to believe anything until I see, though this does give me hope that maybe before I graduate I won't be driving all the way too Roanoke to watch the team play. Yes-I'll still go b/c I love the team-they're a bunch of awesome guys (2 of them being old roommates) and I honestly don't think people go just to stay out past curfew but to actually watch and enjoy the game.

I heard that they were going to start to break ground on the hockey rink before the end of the month, but I didn't really believe it.
But now that I hear about the sign...I am beginning to have hope!

Okay, I took a picture of the picture of the future ice center and saved it as a jpeg, but I can't seem to attach it to my message so you guys can see it, can anyone tell me what to do? I tried to cut and paste, but that doesn't work, and then I tried to hit the little icon that looks like a picture, but that just puts an html tag...so I put the file location, but I don' t think it works... Okay, read the N&A article. It looks like they plan to build a 2.9 million dollar practice rink. C'mon, no seats?
It looks like LU will still have to play their games in Roanoke, at least they can practice at LU now, but what a stupid decision to build a rink without seats, hopefully they will fix this!

That's not to say I'm not excited about the rink. I am! I just hope they put in seats...and I'll put up the picture if someone tells me how! I still haven't figured it out... "file:///C:/My%20Documents/lahayeicecenter.jpg" file:///C:/My%20Documents/lahayeicecenter.jpg

Quote from the article:
Still, the games drew between 500 to 750 students, who routinely stood throughout the games due to a lack of seats, Falwell said.
“In keeping with that tradition, we’re not putting seats in the new ice rink initially,” said Ron Godwin, the executive assistant to the chancellor of Liberty University.
If the time comes when seating is required, LU has some bleachers that it could resurrect for use in the LeHaye Ice Center.
Great, now standing for hockey games is a tradition. What a stupid thing to say. And it looks like when they need the seats, they'll just install the old crap from the Schilling Center. That sounds kind of pathetic to me.

It's official...The Insider has learned that there will in fact be seats in the new LaHaye Left Behind Ice Palace. According to university officials, "We are proud to announce that this will be the first hockey arena with lawn chairs. However it will be up to the students to buy their own chairs and bring them to the games. If they choose not buy the chairs, they will just have to stand. Isn't that what the big schools do?"

We only stand b/c there are no seats...we would like seats though...SHEESH-do they not have brains at all in the higher reaches of the hierarchy?
