Actually, it also was named best field in the nation in 1998 by Turf Magazine (I believe it was Turf Mag.).
And I don't know if you've noticed, but everything baseball does involves either the players doing fundraising or them doing the work themselves. It seems as though they have absolutely no budget whatsoever. It also seems that they have no monetary support outside of the university. There's not much that they can really do.
They probably have priorities on what they want to accomplish with the stadium, and since they have no money, lights probably aren't the highest on the list. They made the clubhouse, now they need some field improvements and seating improvements (for when people start caring). What's the point of lights if there's no one there to watch the game, or if there are fans, the seating isn't adequate?

yeh, there is still a spot down the outfield where you can pull over and park your car or truck and just watch it from there which is better than the seats

The wall is the same, and there are only seats down the first base line, none behind the backstop.

I wonder if they will ever look at making the baseball complex next to the field more visually appealing. It almost appears they threw that building up in to days!

I knew it took a while to get it done. It just looks like it took 3 days to build I guess. I'm glad we have a baseball facility but I wish they could dress it up a bit.

Not going to lie I wasnt always a big PROTOTYPE fan b/c i didnt see what you all did....little did I know that's because the Former administration WOULD NOT let you do much, and not the mention the on going battles with Knox sports…<br> Back to this new AD…he hasn’t even truly started yet already made a call and cleaned up the Vine’s (where all the convo and music equipment was always stored in the tunnel area) I know that’s not much but just saying some people were here fore years and didn’t make that simple phone call

Last post for a while i promise....as far as those lights go, there will be lights between now and 1 year, the main reason LU has put them off for so long is (besides funds) the demands that having lights puts on the grounds crew because the increase in games will be significant while LCA plays their home games now at LU (JV & Varsity) they are limited because of the availability of the field, with lights the availability will be increased considerably also there is hopes of getting a summer college league to use the field as well (valley league or someone else) and I almost forgot American Legion uses the field a lot too

Im not so sure about LCA having use of Worthington Stadium. True the field is used be area legion teams over the summer as well as Flames baseball camps. I don't expect lights for several years.
He is right about the fence. It's not the best of fences but it is 10 times better than the old one which was falling apart. Another tad of information is that Dr. Falwell was going to buy a new scoreboard for the field if baseball found somebody willing to donate the cash for a new fence. The new scoreboard is yet to be seen.

Get Real LU is right on target with all his comments!!
I respect Jerry Falwell for what he has done to get Liberty to this point. But he has no idea whatsoever on running an athletic department.
Liberty Athletics will be in the same position for years until Jerry steps aside and lets the AD do his job. If this does not happen LU will never leave the Big South, Attendence will be the same, the Flames club will be well...the Flames club!,
Outside of the new logo and the team videos for basketball what has prototype done???
Geeze I can't think of anything!
How about they try some giveways(the Falwell bobbleheads were a hit but that idea was started by Bill Hayes!! ;)or starting a student fan club(Duke, Iowa, Pitt) that would spark interest. These ideas would begin to move the Department and University in the right direction, but me personally I just don't see what prototype has done other then the logo which I do give them props for!
By the way all LU students who think our hockey team is good and should join Division I. I would reconsider being from Pennsylvania I have seen good college hockey and the teams up north would destroy us! And if I recall there are only 2 southern schools that have D-I hockey. The minute hockey moves to D-I, the attendence for the games will plumit due to lack of competitiveness. There will be an empty arena just like there is for women's basketball and most men's basketball games and football.
The lack of tradition for athletics at this university will lead to what I believe to be the athletics demise

I have to agree on Hockey. Robert Morris University just added hockey, yet they drew decently well since the NHL lockout and hockey craving in the Western PA area. They have an ex-Penguin coach and have recruited well from several quasi minor league teams in the area, yet got smoked pretty regularly. It takes a HUGE commitment to go D-I in that sport.

and I don't think anyone seriously thinks we should go D1. we're very competative as a club sport and I would think the team enjoys the success. This whole thing started when someone associated a new ice rink/arena w/ moving up, I think its a faulty premise and was never REALLY considered. Esp now that we have added wrestling.

Guy's you say Doc doesnt have any idea about the AD although he's hired every coach except one...our wonderful B-ball coach that took us to the VERY bottom of the nation...Mel. That's why there is a new AD b/c he doesnt have the time or energy to be able to keep his hands in every department. As far as he has no idea, be very careful...men's b-ball, women's b-ball, baseball and football (coming around) are all playing great. Let's not forget that cup we win year after year for all our success

Why don't they just refinish the field located on the Erickson property, right across from Hardees? That should be good enough for LCA, most high school baseball fields I've seen aren't impressive at all. And it would keep the traffic down on the Stadium.

Wait a minute - did they tear down the "scaremare" house? Are you sure they are adding LU Hockey to the DI level? They just added wrestling so according to Title IX, they have to add like 50 womens sports All joking aside, they just cant add hockey because it makes sense - they have to be balanced according to Title IX.

It started with the hockey coach telling me this...but Title IX wouldnt be an issue because LU would have a WMN's Hockey team was well...but those other items all have deadlines (rink, etc.) but going D1 does not...it's only something they are looking to do in the next few years

Scaremare is still stanging....not by much but it's still standing 2. you raise a good point about adding wrestling, although the money is there for it and there will be a team next year it will NOT be D1...the new AD does not want to rush into this and he'll have a full plate without adding D1 sports 3. you asked about WMN's sports...LU is looking into the idea of having the WMN's LAX or a WMN's Swim team since now they have the Olympic size swimming pool 4. The field at "Campus North" no longer Ericisson will be the "future" home for LCA sports but we're still quite a few years off from that

February 24, 2005 · Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty University Chancellor Dr. Jerry Falwell and Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Dave Young have announced that the Athletic Department will be adding wrestling as its 18th NCAA Division I collegiate program.

I could go on an on here, but I won't. We have completed 339 projects for Liberty in 18 months, compiling over 4600 hours on those projects. This list is only a sample of what we have done for Liberty. We are not perfect, but I truly believe that we have done a lot for liberty to this point and will do even more to put Liberty on the Athletic Map. I'm not sure if you came to any games this year for football of basketball, because every football game, but the last one because of Fall Break, was packed. Basketball - Men's had a great year for attendance. Basketball - Women's had bad crowds, and will continue to try and improve that.
Giveaways? Not sure if we can do more than we did last year. Bobble head, great idea by the Flames Club. I'm not sure if Dr. Park will see the benefit of paying $10 per giveaway item.
