good point about the OL. from what I saw when down for the VMI game, any QB we had in was running for his life, or utilizing a quick 3 step drop w/ NO time to allow anything to develop. That HAS to improve.
Of course, we didn't have much of a threat at WR, so maybe they were keying (pun not really intended) on that and could keep the secondary playing up.

With Rashad on his way, Zach may be slipping outside to take advantage of his skills. We saw early int he season against UConn what he can do as a receiver.
But getting some help upfront would sure do wonders for us in this new era of LU football.

Zach could be utilized much the way Brian Westbrook is used in Philly. Quick runner + dependable reciever out of the backfield.

I believe that any coach who takes over a team needs to address the lines on both sides of the ball. To me, that is the key to championship football. There are always athletes out there, but hogs in the trenches are harder to find.

I talked to Rashad today, and I am not 100% sure that he is coming to LU, I have known him for a while and have a good friendship with him. UVA is not going to happen cause Pitt will not let him go there, can't really say anything else about that subject. However I do feel like he is coming here, his dad's health is an issue and should be in all of our prayers. As for Tyler, I can't say that it is a given, from what I was told the line in the Gazette was not to be factual as of this time.

If he transfers to a I-A school he has to sit out a season (and he'll lose a year of eligibility in the process if he goes to a Big East school). If he goes to a I-AA school like Liberty he can play immediately. That's why it is rare to see players move between I-A schools.
He would certainly be welcome back in his old srtomping grounds on the mountain.

Channel 10 out of Roanoke had on the spors news tonight this story. Headline was "Jennings to transfer? "They said UVa, Tech and LU are all possibilities.

UVA and Tech aren't options if he wants to play. And if I'm reading right, he's gonna be a senior, so why wait a year when he could come straight to LU, play, and then graduate.

You aren't reading correctly, SJ. He'll be a sophomore next year. Wannstedt has a reputation for not giving releases to players looking to transfer to other I-As. So that makes it highly unlikely that Rashad would go to UVa or VT.

I'm getting crap confused then. I read somewhere that a dude that was gonna be a senior is transferring somewhere. Wait, that was on the Coastal board that one of the RBs might be transferring. My bad. Got things mixed up.

I tell you what else helped us land Jennings is the recent success of Gado...He already knew it could happen with His bro playin for LU but having someone who did it just a year ago finalized everything for him in his mind

Other than the fact that it shows a 3rd string RB from a lousy I-AA program can make it in the NLF, I just don't see the correlation between Sam and Mister Jennings.

I think it has to do with being able to attract enough attention or having coaches at a low 1-aa program that have NFL contacts to help their players turn pro. If a player at the 1-A level sees that a lower level college in his hometown can produce a Sam Gado, then he gives that school consideration when transferring. That's the connection for what it's worth.

Yes--and all the connections to Sam are GONE. Still a wrong comparison. Apples to oranges.
Now, Coach Rocco has those same sort of connections, though. OK, maybe red apples to green apples.

Connections to Sam are gone? Sam has done everything possible to rep Liberty. He's been pimping it ever since busting on to the scene.

Pimping? I do get your drift though... Sam hasn't been wearing "I love Coach KK" shirts. He's been wearing LU gear. Stories in the press this week weren't that Ken was at the Packers game... they were however that Dr. Falwell from LIBERTY UNIVERSITY was at the game to support Sam. There are connections and they are bigger than Coach Karcher. Now... about these transfers...

Rocco has connections. Any coach with his experience has NFL contacts. Apples to oranges...bananas...grapes...whatever. The point is simply that Jennings is considering a transfer to another school and the timing of Sam Gado's success in the NFL could play a role in him giving consideration to Liberty. Gado's success isn't the only factor but the exposure his success brings to Liberty helps.

Rocco has plenty of connections, but let's not forget that Sam still has his hands on this school/team...he continues to talk to Jerry on a weekly bases and recently daily, also lets not forget that his son is now on staff....so we have all the past connections plus more

I talked w/ someone today who follows LCA/LU and he said Jennings is on the way. The only hold up maybe grades which he would probably be at CVCC for a semester. The other guy hasn't decided yet.

this is from the roanoke times. welcome home rashad!
Jennings a Flame
The first big recruit for new Liberty coach Danny Rocco was Rashad Jennings, who left Pittsburgh after rushing for 411 yards as a redshirt freshman. Jennings led the Panthers in rushing in three of their last five games, including a season-high 102-yard rushing effort against Cincinnati.
Jennings, younger brother of former Virginia Tech tight end Bryan Jennings, played at Lynchburg Christian Academy and has an older brother, Butch, who played for the Flames. While Rashad Jennings did not play for LCA under current coach Frank Rocco Jr., Danny's brother, he was familiar with the Rocco family.
When a family illness prompted Jennings to transfer to a school closer to his home, a transfer to Division I-AA Liberty appealed to Jennings because he would not be required to sit out a year. He could have appealed to the NCAA to have instant eligibility at a I-A program such as Tech or UVa but found Liberty to be more of a "calling," he said.

here is CL's story form the fishwrap:
Jennings decides to transfer to LU By Chris Lang Lynchburg News & Advance Friday, January 6, 2006
His father's failing health at the front of his mind, Rashad Jennings wanted to return to Forest to be closer to his family after spending his freshman year at the University of Pittsburgh. Thursday, he said he will be playing much closer to home during the 2006 college football season.
Jennings, an LCA grad, has transferred to Liberty and will start school later this month when the spring semester begins. Since he is transferring from a Division I-A to a I-AA school, he will not have to sit out a season and will be eligible to play next season.
"I don't want to leave all the burden on my mom," Jennings said. "When my football career is all said and done, the only thing that's going to matter to me is the loved ones. I'd rather be spending my time closer to them.
"I love the Pitt program and coach Wannstedt and the fans, but it's just that we all have to take different routes to get somewhere. Pittsburgh was not working for me."
In one year at Pittsburgh, Jennings rushed for 411 yards and one touchdown in eight games while splitting time with LaRod Stephens-Howling.
At 6-foot-1, 240 pounds, Jennings will give the Flames a bruising complement to tailback Zach Terrell in the backfield.
It will likely give Terrell some flexibility, too. The Big South freshman of the year, Terrell also saw time as a receiver, slot back and a quarterback last year.
Jennings also considered Virginia, but Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt would not release Jennings from his scholarship if he chose to go there. Jennings wasn't interested in appealing to the NCAA to get released, either.
Instead, playing at Liberty satisfied his desire to play never home and make the transition to another school as painless as possible.
"I use football as a platform for ministry," Jennings said. "No other school can provide an education in that field aside from Liberty."
