Thank you Big Smooth for those kind words. But the real credit for the success of the Liberty Lacrosse team goes to the Players of Liberty Lacrosse. They are the ones who have overcame adversity and developed themselves into a National recognized program. I was only along for the ride. This past Spring I had the opportunity to be awarded The Coach of the year Award for the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference Div. B. www.selc.org . But the truth is any success I have had on the Lacrosse field has been from the Blessings God has given me. My Team should have won the award for being the Team of the year. For all their comebacks and adversity they had to overcome from the Accident in Alabama. Their determination brought Glory and honor to God on the Lacrosse Field and had very little to do with me. I am proud to have been their Coach from 2003-2005 even with all the stuff we went through. God's grace is awesome. God Bless,

;D
I just saw this info on Lacrosse. Dr. Falwell or the University should have offered Westfall some kind of deal to stay. I have heard that Westfall is in bad health. But if he does recovery they really need him back.
I have heard good and bad about this new coach and I have also heard some good and bad about Westfall. But at least Westfall has a proven track record and is a well known name in the Lacrosse World. I have also heard that the Team lost a lot of Guys from last year and has huge financial issues and will not be as good as last year. I just think letting Westfall go back out west was a big mistake.
Granted this Mettallo Guy may do some great things. but I hear they have not even gotten on a field for the Fall season yet. We just have to wait and see what happens. If Mettalo ends up being another great Coach I hope the University will sign him to some kind of long term contract and not let him get away like they are with Westfall. From what I hear this will be a rebuilding year but I'm excited about the new coach and am eager to see if the team can maybe become an elite Lacrosse program here in Virginia.

PAmedic:
Thanks for showing me this site. I'm heading out to New Mexico Thursday and I'm busy with some medical stuff these next few weeks so I wont be on line for a while.
I have some Family that likes Liberty sports and they may come on. I showed them this site.
If Tom gives me some updates on the Lacrosse schedule I will pass that along. I will also let you guys know how my interview at the University of New Mexico goes.

Found Elon's site: they don't bother to acknowlege that we exist, but are proud of the fact that their ladies play UNC-CH, UNC-W, UNC- A, B, C, D, E, F & G. (ok, kidding about those last 7) ECU's ladies site isn't any more helpful.

It is early to be showing game results for the fall. I don't know what they are doing but Fall-ball is mainly a time of running practices and preparing for the spring. They may be going to a Tourney at Elon, ECU or Wake Forest at the end of the Fall and they usually play in some tourney in late October or early November.
The Men's team also does not show anything. I did hear they had issues getting on a field until like the 3rd week of September but have been running a few practices since. But I don't see Liberty playing in any Men's tourney this Fall or playing anyone this Fall.
Last year we started in the first week in September and had Fall ball complete by the first week of October and hosted the Old Dominion Shootout at Liberty which we placed second in winning 3 and losing 1 .
The Girls do usually play in a Tourney at the end of the fall so I would E-mail one of their contact people on their website. But like all of you I notice that the website is not being kept up anymore.
The Lacrosse program is in different hands now so I really can't say what is happening. I do know that there seems to be less support for the program since the accident and there is still medical bills and such still hanging over the program from last spring.
I hate to speculate on stuff but it just seems like they are in the closet about a lot of things at this time. I wish I could tell everyone what is happening but nobody may know anything until the Men's Lacrosse Team and Women's Lacrosse Team start their games come Spring time.
It maybe they are keeping a low profile for now and both programs start out with a bang in the Spring. It sure has been quit and a lot of my former Players have not been in touch with me or have not said much.
My own opinion is that the School really does not care about Lacrosse and is giving it limited support due to the financial issues from the accident. That goes both for the Men's and the Women's Lacrosse Teams. There just maybe overwhelming issues with major sports like Football and Baseball for the moment from where the University stands.
I just want to thank all of those people who wrote me over my Birthday and who wished me well on my first surgery. I have my second surgery on Nov. 17, 2005 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. This will be Brian Surgery as they will clear blood and fluid off my Brain. There are some risks but in the long haul I will feel a lot better
I hope to return home to New Mexico right before Christmas and I will be helping out with the Lacrosse team at the University of New Mexico with interim head Coach Jeff Eichman. I wont take over the Head Coaching position till Summer of 2006 for the 2006-2007 season.
We have a planned trip to play NC State and Wake Forest in North Carolina so I may get a chance to see some folks I know next year from the sideline.
For now it is about getting my health back and due to my health limitations I will not be able to coach the Team at the U of New Mexico on a full time basis next spring but the staff is going to save a spot for me for next year. I'm real excited about getting a chance to do what I love at a major University like the University of New Mexico.
I wish I knew what was up with LU Lacrosse for you guys. On the men's side they do have a lot of freshmen and new recruits and there is some promise of having a really great year. I also believe that is the same for the Girls but we wont know anything to they at least update their website or scores start coming back in the USL MDIA or the USL WDIA and the SELC or the Carolina Women's Lacrosse League.
Sorry I wrote book, just wanted to update everyone.
God Bless,
TheLaxman

OK, on the Men's Team, I have spoken to one of my former Players and they are either hosting a Tourney or going to one next week.
On the Women's Team I am working on getting in touch with Mary Catherine and see what is going on. When I know something I will let everyone know.
All the best,

Thanks for the updates- you're our best inside guy on the outside! I really hope the support issues on campus aren't that dire. These guys and girls play their hearts out and deserve the backing. In the overall scheme of things- it can't POSSIBLY cost that much.
