a good weekend for the lady flames in raleigh this weekend. they lost a hard fought 1-0 overtime match to nc state, and tied elon 1-1 in overtime. (1-1-2). i saw the match friday, and we had many opportunities to win. the ladies have a chance to be really good if they can finish.

The following are posts as they originally appeared on the "soccer" thread. Figured since SMOOTHIE started a thread exclusively for the ladies, I'd move them here.

The women's soccer team had a lot of erratic possesions and it wasn't pretty to watch. Old Dominion is quicker than LU is in women's soccer. They would get the ball down field and ODU's defense would "tackle" them and they had a lot of breakaway opportunities and had plenty more shots than LU. But LU played hard for the entire game.

How about the women's team win over SEC Arkansas. They were outshot something like 21-7 but were able to hold on and withstand the late Arkansas onslaught. A good win for the lady's and the a momentum booster for the upcoming game vs JMU.

Well Coach told me before the game, that it was going to be a very tough game, so you just have to look for the positives out of this one, which is that Sonia played another amazing game. This is a young team that is only going to get better in the next two years.

The Liberty Lady Flames have earned the No. 3 seed in next week’s Big South Women’s Soccer Championship in Rock Hill, S.C., it was determined today as the conference season concluded this afternoon.
Liberty finished tied with High Point and Coastal Carolina for second-place in the regular-season with identical 5-3-0 records for 15 points. The High Point Panthers received the No. 2 seed due to holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over both the Lady Flames and Coastal Carolina.
The Lady Flames notched the No. 3 seed by virtue of its 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday evening. Liberty, on a four-game winning streak, will enter the tournament Thursday with a 9-6-2 overall record to go along with their 5-3-0 conference mark. With nine wins, the squad has the most wins by a Lady Flames’ squad since 2001, when that team won 11 games.
Liberty will play the No. 6 seed Birmingham-Southern Panthers, the tournament’s defending champion, in the first game of afternoon on Thursday. The Panthers and Charleston Southern finished tied at 4-4 record for 12 points and the Lady Bucs garnered the No. 4 seed by winning their head-to-head meeting during the regular season. High Point, who won the tiebreaker with Liberty and Coastal Carolina receives the No. 2 seed, with Liberty, the No. 3 seed, due to its head-to-head advantage over Coastal, garnering the Lady Chants, the No. 4 seed. Charleston Southern earned the No. 5 seed with its head-to-head advantage over Birmingham-Southern (No. 6 seed). Regardless of the outcome- this answers the questions raised in another thread about why ALL our fall sports were "down". In fact, they were obviously not- esp these ladies, cross country teams, and even the mens' soccer team isn't AWFUL.
