I am hoping to get some insight as to what kind of plan the new AD has when I meet with him next Monday. I have prepared several marketing ideas that I will share with him as well. I am seriously ready to get plugged in and help out with some of the things that we talk about on this board all the time.

I guess I could call you the next insider maybe. Hope we can meet soon. It seems like our schedules get crossed up so far.

You know why we can't generate crowds at our games...because 95% of guys that go to LU don't like LU football...they follow other teams...Like myself, I like TAMU, others like ND, Michigan,FSU or God forbid Texas, but we can't generate the kind of following with this type of "pulling the rug out from underneath us"

Uh, anyone want to come to Texas to chill?
Seriously, bigsmooth is absolutely correct that the alumni need to take a proactive approach to helping this program grow. That's a big reason for this thread int he first place.
Zack is correct that most of us all have our separate allegiances away LU. But that doesn't mean that you can't have a passion for the Flames as well if we are giving students & alumni something to get juiced about. And that doesn't happen by accident. It takes planning & execution.

Here's another random musing while I was mowing my yard this afternoon: The University of Texas has a tower on campus that they illuminate at night. After football or basketball victories (and other sports from time to time if it is big enough) they put orange gels on the lights in order to turn the tower orange. That way everybody in town knows whether or not UT won their big game that day. In the case of national championships, they turn on lights in the rooms of thetower to show a '1'. Obviously, we don'thave any towers on campus. But what if we were to come up with something up on top of the mountain that we could illuminate under similar circumstances. It would be something to take note of int he community of Lynchburg and be a source of pride for the school. Granted, I know ther would be FAA & monetary issues. But it seems like something that could be worth some extra thought.

Tower Idea...
Actually, it might not cost that much if they work it in to the new sanctuary on the North Campus.

Considering the locals don't even like the idea of renaming it Liberty Mountain, I seriously doubt a visible mountain top landmark is something they'd take pride in.

10 to 1 the environmentalists shoot it down as light pollution. where I live you get fined if the cops feel your porch light encroaches on your neighbor's property (I'm not kidding) due to new regulations of this sort.

That's somthing that could be done. The Wingate Inn, which is right next to campus up the mountain a little on 460, shines green lights on the building face during Christmas season, and you can see that from quite a ways away. The thing is it probably wouldn't be feasible on the top of the mountains, as the tops are already owned by someone else. Maybe the big square on top of the old Ericsson building would do. Just kidding.

Good points. One of the coolest things I have seen is the statue on the mountainside at Mt. St. Mary's. it's gold and very striking. Not saying we should put a statue of Jesus up on the mountain but we could put something up there related to the athletic loco and illuminate it on gameday when we win. My only concern would be trouble makes going up there and trying to tear it up.
That said - how about a bust of Dr. Falwell carved into the mountain like at Mt. Rushmore? OK - That's my poor attempt at humor for the day.

Just kidding. 1. The Wingate hasn't yet managed to take down their "Christmas lights". They're still green. Welcome to the south, everyone. 2. The big square on the old Ericsson building, indeed. Just remember, you heard it here first.

The square on the Ericsson building would work, I think...They could put the logo up there or something and light it up.
And also, I wasn't talking about a tower at the top of the mountain, I was talking about if they would put some kind of steeple type thing that they could light up on the new sanctuary if they build it over there.

I seriously doubt that they would let us celebrate our athletic achievements on a TRBC steeple. But I like the concept.
All these suggestions would enhancement the atmosphere at the game without breaking the bank. Some of you folks with the contacts ought to direct folks in the Athletic Office and higher to this thread.

I'd be willing to submit a jpeg of my handsome profile that could be enlarged to 20' square if you need a eye catching subject for the GE/Erricson/?? bldg.

We're not trying to frighten the good people of Lynchburg. We're trying to get then interested in what we have going on. Eegads.
