thanks for the info- will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers. Must have been a very long week and weekend for him, esp while recovering from the last episode.

I just talke to Dr. Lovett about 20 minutes ago and Dr. Falwell is back on a respirator, but is responding and looking around. But he isn't in the greatest of shape.

Just rolled into Boston and saw the news about Dr. Falwell. He's in my prayers. I know we can't keep him forever but I will miss that man when he's gone. I was listening to some of his tapes on my way up the road and he is one in a million.

Thanks for the link. And obviously we continue to pray for his health.
BTW, that home camcorder deal on the newspaper link was a little odd. I guess they are sending their reporters out with little cameras now.

Isnt it amazing that in the article, the hospital staff just stared (at the media attention)? I guess people that live in L'burg and are outside of the goings on surrounding Falwell just dont understand what a significant figure he is. I had that sense when I was I attended LU. He is a polarizing figure no doubt, but come on! He put L'Burg on the map. Like him or hate him - he gives the tiny town of L'burg free publicity.

People in Lynchburg have always taken Jerry, TRBC & LU for granted. Actually, it goes deeper than that. Most are embarassed that it sits in their own backyard. Its like he's the embarassing uncle you hide from guests. Sad.
Its clear the rest of America understands the impact he has had on society whether they agree with him or not.

If someone in his family or close to him reads this: I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT attempt to drive him to the hospital AGAIN! CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY!
I can't tell you how many times I have pulled patients from their vehicles in the street after they ALMOST made it to the ER, but "coded" first. ITS A DISASTER! You DO NOT save time by racing to the hospital in your car. Modern paramedic units have nearly the same capabilities as the ED when it comes to cardiac and/or respiratory drugs, heart monitors, IV therepies, etc. Allow your local professionals to do their jobs. The life you save may be your own or your loved ones'.
(END OF SERMON/ADVERTISEMENT FOR PARAMEDICS!)

yeah, sorta a sore point in our profession. And I can only imagine how panic stricken his poor wife must have been- a VERY bad situation for a civilian to be in. God was DEFINITELY watching over him

While PAmedic's advice is dead on, I don't believe Jerry or Macel had any idea how severe his condition was when they left their home.

You're probably right. However if there is any doubt at all - I mean the slightest bit - call 911.

I'd agree w/ that SLY- and I mean ABSOLUTELY NO DISRESPECT to Dr Falwell and his family. I tell ALL my patients the same thing. Err to the side of caution: ESPEC w/ chest pains or shortness of breath.
Without getting too technical- or making assumptions about his condition (of which when I have NO first hand knowledge) , a very common symptom of CHF (congestive heart failure) is something called "flash pulminary edema".
Simply put, you're "fine" one moment, maybe a LITTLE resp difficulty- next thing you know- your lungs fill w/ fluid and you are UNABLE to breath at ALL. you shut down and go into respiratory arrest, which can lead to cardiac arrest. VERY COMMON, VERY BAD.
That MAY have been what happened- I pray that he gets the meds and trtmnt needed to avoid further episodes.
