bad news early for the winthrop mens soccer team. it is good to see a university do the right thing. her's hoping those guys have learned a valuable lesson and have a great season...except when they play us!
MEN'S SOCCER
WINTRHOP TEAM SUSPENDED: The entire Winthrop men's soccer team has been suspended at least two games for its involvement in an off-campus gathering with underage drinking.
Each of the 27 players will be suspended for two to four games, and players will serve suspensions in groups to avoid forfeiting any games, athletics department spokesman Jack Frost said.
Winthrop opens the regular season against Appalachian State on Sept. 1.

Other than getting a good chuckle out of the spokesman's name, I thought that took some serious guts to suspend all thos eplayers. The Winthrop administration should be proud.

that is impressive considering the age of NCAA D1 sports we live in. Bet their message board is interesting right now, too.

No, unfortunately, i don't have a whole lot of people signed up yet to the board (probably won't really pick up until basketball season). It'll be interesting to see how the suspensions work out and the effect on the team for the whole season. The newcomers on the team had been very impressive in the preseason and the coaches and some people around the program had high hopes for this squad...Who knows what will happen now.

it is a shame- hopefully the lessons about accountability are well learned. Athletes are always held to a moral standard; just the way it is.
