Yes there is at least one other younger brother left in Peru, NY. He will be a freshman in college when Jordan is in his senior year of eligibility. He is also supposed to be quite a talented runner, from what josh and jordan have told me over the past year. Hopefully that will mean he will be coming here just like the older bros.

I noticed on VMI's board the other day they were happy that their team posted a "strong" showing at a recent meet: 21st out of 40+ teams. Men’s Cross Country 21st at Paul Short Invitationalguess we're on a different level? (not being sarcastic here- for once)

I looked at teh winning time from this year at the Paul Short race, and Josh's 2004 time would have meant he crushed the field and the winner from this year is almost 10 seconds off his time...shows that yeah...he is on another planet competitionwise

so, we skipped this one due to a schedule conflict or the guys just needed a break?

They skipped it because they went to stanford a week ago and are going to pre-nats in a weeks time. Most teams do not run too many away meets in a row, especially given the travel expenses of going to california and indiana from lynchburg.

Not to mention the toll on the body. The prestige Josh gained last year created a situation where we could pick & choose some bigger events this year. With Josh & Jordan, we're operating on a whole different level than we have in the past.

Also, if you listened to Coach Tolsma's comments that weekend on This Week in Flames Athletics (Saturday mornings at 10 AM on 90.9 FM http://www.thelightonline.com) the weekend of the Stanford Invitational, he also mentioned that he promised a couple of his West Coast runners that they would get a chance to run out there before they graduated

Well the Flames will be back in action this weekend at the NCAA Pre-Nationals after a 3 week layoff. Josh Mcdougal will be looking for his 11th win in 12 overall starts, and his 8th consecutive win in a non-championship meet (conference or national). Jordan McDougal has finished second to JOsh in each of his 3 starts this year. Coach Tolsma did tell me in my last interview with him a couple weeks ago that the course at Indiana State was supposed to be faster than it was when the nationals were held there last year. Race starts at 11 AM

Coach Tolsma said today at the Flames Club luncheon that Track & Field News predicted Josh 10th on Sat. It sounded like it fired Josh up some.

that oughta motivate the young man. No doubt he'll do better than 10th anyway, even if they respected him more. What a talent!

This just in from Pre-Nats today. Looks like it will be a pretty exciting season.
Another Race, Another Record For McDougal
October 15, 2005 · Terra Haute, Ind.
For the second time in as many races Josh McDougal has asserted himself as one of, if not, the nation’s premier cross country runner as he set a new course record at Pre-Nationals this afternoon on the La Vern Gibson Championship Course.
The old record was destroyed by McDougal (So., Peru, N.Y.) as he broke the record by 28 seconds, which was set earlier in the day during the Blue Race by BYU’s Josh Rohatinsky.
Not only did McDougal set a new course record, but he also established a new Big South record. Running second for the Flames was Jarvis Jelen (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) as he ran the 8k course in 24:48.3. Jordan McDougal (r-Fr., Peru, N.Y.), who battled breathing problems, ran as high as 10th but fell back to 82nd place with a time of 24:59.7, while Clint Jackson (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed 152nd with a time of 25:39.6. Sophomore Drew Ponder (So., Colonial Heights, Va.) recorded a personal best with a time of 25:50.9 to place 166th to round of the Flames scorer’s.
“Josh continued to amaze everyone,” remarked head coach Brant Tolsma. “I think he really stamped himself as a contender for the national championship with this performance.”
“As a team, we had mixed results,” explained Tolsma. “We had to battle some problems, but we feel they are problems we can correct.”
Overall the men placed 16th out of 34 teams with 464 points. Colorado, Notre Dame, Florida, Iowa and Portland rounded out the top five.
On the women’s side, the Lady Flames were paced by Sarah Roberts (So., Zeiglerville, Pa.) as she finished 91st with a time of 21:54.1 on the 6k course. Carol Jefferson (So., Schwenksville, Pa.) placed 113th with a time of 22:09.9, while Danielle Jordan (So., Medford, Ore.) and Chelsey Swanson (r-Jr., Littleton, Colo.) finished 146th and 168th with times of 22:30.4 and 22:49.5, respectively. Rounding out the scorer’s for the women was Reyna Quiroz (r-So., Canyonville, Ore.) who placed 171st with a time of 22:50.3.
“We ran a solid race,” commented Tolsma. “Our women’s team got some good experience at a big meet.”
Overall, the women placed 27th. Stanford, Notre Dame, Columbia, Brigham Young and North Carolina State rounded out the top five.
Liberty will take next week off in preparation for the Big South Championships on October 29, in Lexington, Va.

Hey just an update for conference championships next week. I was talking to one of the members of the women's team today in the post office and she told me that Jordan will most likely not be running next week at the conference championships due to a leg injury that he has been neglecting so far this season. Hopefully this won't affect their chances at winning the big south title.

funny how no one on any other sports message boards is impressed by any of the stuff we ARE good at. The whole "olympic sport" thing, I guess. No winning FB team, no press.

The men's and women's cross country teams are in action this morning at the 2005 New Balance Big South Conference Cross Country Championships at the Virginia Horse Farm in Lexington, VA (VMI's home course). I got some comments from Coach Tolsma about today's race which you can hear on This Week in Flames Athletics at 10 AM on 90.9 FM. Josh McDougal will be going for his second consecutive individual title while trying to lead Liberty to their first team title since 2001. On the women's side, the Lady Flames will be led by Carol Jefferson and they will be trying to break Coastal Carolina's 4 year stranglehold on that division. Ann Marie Moutsinga of Coastal Carolina is the favorite in that race.

Liberty didn't run their #2 man Jordan McDougal, and they still won convincingly. Actually, if you were to take Josh McDougal out of the picture Liberty still would have won the meet. Finally if you scored Big South as a Liberty vs the rest of the Big South Liberty still comes out on top, and they only lose one man next year, and none the year after that. Talk about domination....
