Yeah- always good to have another hockey enthusiast on board. If you're on campus- let us know how progress is coming on that rink. I'm hoping to get down for the inaugural night, but haven't asked permission yet!

Radford and VMI are both a division below us...so let us rejoice in the 99.9% probability that there will never be a Big South hockey league.

yeah Radford also cancelled today so there won't be any game at all this weekend, although Kirk is talking about perhaps having another blue and white game because it is college for a weekend. yes i am on campus, and i signed up a couple of weeks ago, but i have been having trouble logging onto the board.

SLY tells everybody that can't log in that it may be due to an AOL thing (remember to thank SCAR for that when you pay your humongous monthly bill). Try an alternate email address from Yahoo or Hotmail or something.

And what's with these opposing teams cancelling? They couldn't scrape together enough guys to skate? That oughta be a forfeit- otherwise, whats the point of having a league- may as well have a bunch of scrimmages.

Actually, those schools aren't in our league (literally or figuratively). These are basically scrimmages at this point. But it would be nice for us to get some ice time against somebody else.

AOL is really not that expensive (at least that is what they train us to say ;-))

that would definitely be cool, I wasn't aware we had attempted a ladies team. Hopefully they pull it off.
I would ABSOLUTELY love to come down for THIS. Have to stay on my best behavior and bribe Mrs PAmedic-2-B.

This is jimflamesfan...(changed ISP's...have to figure out my password).
Anyway, IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) has a very good hockey program as well. IUP and LU are probably the best in the UHL. My sister and brother-in-law went to IUP. I had friends that I played hockey with in highschool that played for both IUP and LU. Sy Holsinger I believe actually played for LU and then later transferred to IUP. He lived up the street from me when I lived in PA.

I'm hoping the rink on campus exposes this very successful team to a LOT more people as well as the press (CHRIS!)

"I'm hoping the rink on campus exposes this very successful team to a LOT more people as well as the press (CHRIS!)" ... the paper will never give this team exsposure bc it's not a Liberty sport, it's a club team ... we beat teams like UVa, Duke and other club teams bc they're not good enough to compete at the DI or DIII level ... by the way, neither are we!!!

There was an article on the team the year before I was a freshman, but that was like 4 years ago lol (Gosh-I'm getting old)

I wouldn't be surprised if Chris gives the team some love once the rink opens up. It makes an interesting feature.

As i have mentioned, my son plays for Cal State Long Beach, and we play USC, UCLA, Berkley, Univ of Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, San Jose State, Weber State, and others. The hockey is not D-I, but it is very good hockey. Somebody said that D-3 hockey has 175 pound players who can skate like (heck), and D-1 hockey has 210 pound players who can skate like (heck). I will just say that Liberty University's hockey team is highly regarded (they were out here in So. California for the nationals a couple of years ago) and is very good. Anyone getting the chance to see them will see good and exciting hockey. Oh yes, I come from Maine, where good hockey is known to be played. I hope that Liberty either can get, or has gotten, seats for the fans. I can't imagine building a great fan base without decent seating, although I did play outdoors against Dixfield High in Maine, and the fans were standing board high, kicking snow on you when you went into the corners, which, by the way, really were corners - being 90 degree construction.
Anyway - Liberty Hockey is known across the country.

"ok hero. you skate with them and, assuming you have any teeth left, tell me how much they suck." PAmedic
Your logic does not make any sense ... that would be like me telling you to play football w/ our team and then if you can get off of the turf, telling me how much they suck ... I don't need to play the sport to tell you that they could not compete at the DI or DIII level ... my point was that although we play "big name" schools, they are just like us -- a club team. Get your head out of the ice, we could not compete at any level other than the club level!

Actually people who know more about the sport than I do (i.e.-Minor League Players) told me that we could be competitive at NCAA DIII...and yes, the big schools we play are also club teams, but thats because, like us, they don't compete at the varsity level yet.

When do you think we'll compete at the varsity level? Not anytime soon. LU hockey people are just as delusional as Jerry Falwell. You just can’t add a sport because you want to, you need to have financial backing and you need to remember Title IX (which we are not incompliance with). And no, we cannot add both men’s and women’s hockey because we already operate $7 million in the RED!! So, although it is a nice dream, it is just that: a dream. Keep winning at the club level and liking because it’s not going to become a real sport anytime soon.

Got any evidence that we're not in compliance with Title IX?

Evidence? 1) How about we spend more money on men's sports than women's sports, yet more women proportionately go to this school. 2) We have more women in our student body, yet more opportunities for men in collegiate sports 3) We only have one female in any administrative position in the athletic department and no female coaches -- shall I go on?

10 men's sports ... 8 women's sports (this includes the addition of wrestling next year) ... so adding hockey would mean 11 men's sports to 8 women's ... also, don't forget about the great lacrosse club team (hope you can feel the sarcasim) who thinks they should be a varsity sport ... question for you: who is the only school in the nation that does not have a female head coach??
