Will wrestling ever be reinstated at Liberty?

With so many schools dropping wrestling due to Title IX the past decade or so, has club wrestling stepped up to fill the gap? If so, perhaps that might be the way to go.
Otherwise, I don't see the school adding any male scholarships because they would have to match or exceed those 'ships on the womens side. And LU's athletic budget isn't exactly overflowing.

Wow, having lost touch- I didn't realize the program was even dropped. Wrestling was a BIG deal when I was down there in the 80's- one of the main reasons I went in the 1st place. Unfortunately I tore a PCL, ending my shot at the team.

I think we, as members of this esteemed board, deserve partial credit for encouraging the chancellor- who, no doubt- consults these posts for advice on sports matters.

I have to admit I am baffled by the decision. BUt anything that creates opportunities for more athletes is a great thing in my book.

um- its a no-brainer: wrestling is cheap (comparatively) and attracts a RABID following- much like ice hockey or lacrosse. I'd encourage anyone to attend a wrestling match and dare you to come back and tell me you weren't sucked into the excitement. It's unlike anything else- very gladitorial or primal or something. Of course, I was a HS letterman in wrestling and attracted to LU by Schuler and co., so I am biased- I'll admit it.

I'm surprised it wasn't women's golf so we could be more competitive for the Sasser Cup. I'm interested to see what LU will do to balance out Wrestling with Title IX. However, I am excited to see Wrestling added-it means we could fit in better in another conference like the Colonial or the Southern, which both have Wrestling.

I hope that you are right about the conference thing. It would be nice to get into a respectable conference. It is nice to see wrestling coming back after a long time off. It was one of our better sports. Hopefully administration will make the right moves and use this as tool for a conference switch.

Stage 1 complete- wrestling has been added to the link-bar-thing at the side of the sports web page, now to get them to add hockey and lacrosse!
