I don't think I've ever seen anyone smile bigger than Coach Aljendra Aguilar!
then again, I'm from the East Coast- no one smiles up here.

Latinas are exuberant in general. That's why I married one.
Ah, Sweetbriar. That's brings back a whole different set of memories. Did I mention how much I love my wife?

They made indoor tennis facilities a few months ago. They're located in the Schilling Center, on the spot where they used to play basketball and have campus church. It's pretty convenient being right next to the outdoor courts. They also added wood floors to the other side (under the old weight room) for the baskeball teams to practice on.

ohhhhkay- didn't know that. silly question I guess, but no more horrible plastic/rubber multi-purpose floor? If not, then the ol' Liberty Gym really IS gone! they must have relocated all that stuff to the new place in the old GE bldg?

Nope, I think they're done with that stuff. Progress and modernization are now the name of the game.

Nice win for the guys yesterday. One more and we're back to .500! The Liberty Flames won eight of the nine matches played on their way to downing Gardner-Webb, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon in men’s non-conference tennis action. libertyflames.com/mtennis/news.asp?news_id=2080

Averett is a Division III school in Danville...I think they're in a league with Montreat and UNC Pembroke (the only UNC that Asheville is better than)

The LU Women's Tennis team lost Nichole Duncan due back spasms and a neck injury due to car accident. That is a big loss for the Lady Flames, but they are hoping she returns for the tournament.

I've seen our tennis team practice...they have a lotta power but no control...sad part is, I'm too easily overpowered or I could be on the team (I was actually recruited, along with my doubles partner, by 3 Division III schools to play doubles for them-don't ask me why we turned them down).
Anyway, Winthrop is continuing its rise as the dominant program in the Big South by winning both men's and women's tennis...lets just hope they add a football team.

Yeah, you can't mess with Winthrop in sports involving a ball going over a net (have won the last three volleyball titles, the last two men's tennis titles, and the last four in women's tennis)...We're hoping the conference adds ping-pong to its roster of sports in the future.
As far as football being added, don't hold your breath...it's not happening anytime soon.

Just thought I would let all of you know Larry Hubbard was on the University of Maryland Men's Lacrosse Team in 1973 and started in the NCAA National Championship game that won Maryland the National Championship in Lacrosse. Larry is a great Coach and does a great job in the Athletic Department.
When Larry was an Assistant Lacrosse Coach at UMBC in 1983 I almost went there to play Lacrosse and he would have been my Coach. But God called me to go to Liberty.
With someone like him running the show I know the Tennis team will have a great year.
All the best,

I used to Coach at Winthrop and I think we have a far better Athletic Department then them. We beat them in Lacrosse in 2004 21-3.

Guys:
I'm sorry if I was a little gungho. I Coached at Winthrop for 3 years and it is a great School and I Coached some great kids. There were a lot of great times on the field with those Teams I coached. They will always be kept in my memory as a positive experience.
I have also coached at the University of South Carolina, Colorado School of Mines, Liberty University and the University of New Mexico. Each school had its good and bad. But anytime you get to coach young Men it is a blessing and God uses you to minister the Gospel. I have almost 30 years in Lacrosse and all of it was a good time. If I do get my health back to normal I look forward in returning to the New Mexico sideline and raising up another team that gets a National ranking. I also plan to Coach my Son Jackson in the youth Lacrosse league in Santa Fe and maybe even Coach my other Son Jeremiah in youth Baseball in Rio Rancho, New Mexico where our home is.
Anyone who knows me knows I am very competitive and very determined and driven to win. I am very proud of Liberty and what they have been able to do on the Athletic Field in all sports and I do have a tendency to be bias toward Liberty. Please forgive me for not showing restraint and being an outspoken Flames fan.
All the best,
John Westfall LU Alumni 1987 Romans 8:31
