Liberty University seemed like the perfect fit for John Battle High School cross country and track and field standout Ashley Osborne.
"That is where God wanted me to go," Osborne said. "I’ve been there and ran with the cross country team earlier this year and I really liked what they had to offer. They have a really good cross country program as well as great academics. I also liked the spiritual aspect."
Osborne will walk-on at Liberty, a Division I institution and a member of the Big South Conference. She certainly has the credentials to run at the D-I level.
The former Trojans’ distance runner won the Virginia High School League Group A 3,200-meter run as a junior and placed third in the event this year. She won a bevy of cross country and track meets her last two years, becoming one of the top runners in Southwest Virginia.
"My senior year was a lot of fun," Osborne said. "It was disappointing coming from a state championship and then getting third and fourth (in the 1,600-meter run). But overall I was pleased with my career."
Osborne, who also received a lot of interest from King College, now prepares for the next level.
"I’m going to be walking on, so there will not be a lot of pressure," Osborne said. "I’m also excited about being on a team that is really good. I’m looking forward to it."
