Yes...and we all know why volleyball is having an off year...young, inexperienced team. But Coach Pinder is doing a good job with the ladies, and next year and the year after we should be expecting great things from the hottest female team (since Feenstra and friends graduated, and I'm also including the cheerleaders) at Liberty. GO LADY FLAMES!!!!!

#3 Lady Flames Roll Past #6 Birmingham-Southern, 4-1, In Big South Championship Opener November 3, 2005 · Rock Hill, S.C.
Rachel Hetrick scored two second-half goals as the No. 3 seed Liberty Lady Flames scored three second-half goals on their way to a 4-1 victory over No. 6 seed Birmingham-Southern 4-1 in the first game of the 2005 Big South Women's Soccer Championship at Eagle Stadium on the campus of Winthrop University, Thursday afternoon.
Liberty advances to play No. 7 Radford, a 2-0 winner over No. 2 High Point, tomorrow evening in the conference semifinals, its first appearance in the semifinals since its championship season of 2001. Match time is set for 5 p.m. at Eagle Stadium.
The Lady Flames’ Ashley Braam (So., F, Grand Rapids, Mich.) opened the scoring with her fifth goal of the season at the 32:47 mark of the first half, with assistance from Tanya Payne (So., D, Prescott, Ariz.).
The Lady Flames took the 1-0 lead to halftime, having out-shot the Panthers in the first half, 8-3.
Liberty jumped out to a 3-0 lead mid-way through the second half as Brittney Bench (So., F, Orefield, Pa.) tallied her first score of the year at 61:24. Hetrick (So., F, Grantville, Pa.) scored the first of her two goals at 77:35, her third of the 2005 campaign.
Birmingham-Southern cut the deficit to 3-1 when Brittney Jones notched her third goal of the season at 82:09, but Hetrick immediately countered with a goal at 83:19 for the final margin. It was the sophomore’s first multiple-goal game of her career.
Liberty keeper Sonia Rodriguez recorded one save, while the Lady Flames’ defense held Birmingham-Southern to just four shots all day, two of which were on goal. Tina Ross posted four saves for the Panthers and faced eight shots on goal. Payne, Mandee Judd (Jr., MF, Front Royal, Va.), Sarah Davis (Sr., F, Modesto, Calif.) and Amy Oberlin (MF, F, Ada, Mich.) assisted on Liberty’s goals.
Birmingham-Southern ends the season at 8-11-1 and becomes the second defending tournament champion in three years to be ousted in the first round.
Liberty moves 10-6-2 on the season, the most victories and first double-digit win total by a Lady Flames squad since 2001.
“It was probably our best all-around game all season,” stated Liberty head coach James Price. We dominated possession and finished on our scoring opportunities. Now we move onto tomorrow.”

Congrats..the Flames just beat RU, 2-1 to get to the finals... Also, I just saw that the Big South website has a new feature with high quality photos from various football games and the conference championships...tons of pics of LU (and all of the other schools) in action in football, cross country, and soccer... www.wgsportsphotos.com/photos/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=7

Let's get UNCA tomorrow for the title. This team (LU) is definitely peaking at the right time and hopefully we will take the title tomorrow.

If they win championship game is there a automatic bid to NCAAs Yes... the two years we won it... we got shipped to Wake and UVa... a win this year would probably get a similar ACC team... it looks like we are going to be able to broadcast the championship on Sunday on the radio. Still working out some details... but it is looking good.

6-1 loss to wake in 2000, and 3-0 loss to virginia in 2001. WHEN we beat UNCA today, i could see us again being shipped to either UNC or UVA. they play sunday for the ACC championship, and they are the top two seeds. either way it will be great to see our ladies back in the dance. GO FLAMES!!!!!

Just 5 minutes to go. Jamie thinks UVA would be a likely first round opponent. Rather them than UNC.

On 85 making the trek back from the Hill... What a game! It was worth the trip. Great effort by everyone... I'm so happy for James, he has gone through a tough 3 years. Also happy for the seniors... it seams like they really bonded this year.
Now lets get one on the guys side!

If there ever were a scenario for them to head into the Tourney and pull off a first round upset, this is the year. They are rising a serious wave of momentum right now.

I gotta figure that one out Not sure about GIMME... I think he may have still been in the Press Box when he sent his. I have a a PDA that connects to the Internet through cell signal. Very handy when you spend so much time on the road. You can do a celly-laptop connection but the handheld is more convenient.
