Just a few interesting notes from an interview at the LCA game on Friday night.
-He said the hockey rink will have room for 2500 fans. Most of which are for standing. He said most young kids do anyway. -He also said that he has a donor for the expansion on Williams Stadium when we are ready. I guess they are going to expand to 30000 seats. He said that the Football operations center will have a practice field. I hope that facility will help w/ recruiting. -He was quick to point that he and Holtz are long time friends and he is here to give advice.

Another thing they need to do is upgrade to that fake grass that they use in the NFL. I am sure it is not cheap but it is so neat and I hear it is great to play on. I was a few feet from the field at the Howard/SC State game and it looks like real grass until you really stare at it. Good to know about the expansion of the field.

App St uses the field turf. It's basically rubber grass. Western Carolina uses it as well. A lot of high schools in western NC are moving to the field turf because it handles weather so much better.

When I taked to Dr. Falwell during halftime, he said that we should be able to talk to Coach Holtz so hopefully we should have some more info within the next week.

fieldturf is the way to go. most of the MAC teams are using it now and they used to be the kings of artificial turf. keep us updated on holtz' visit to the mountain.

The different major options are FieldTurf and AstroPlay. They are VERY similar. FieldTurf seems to be gaining the vast majority of the market. Its not that expensive as opposed to traditional Astroturf and you don't need to have any crown to the field. The drain extremely well. At some point we need to get rid of that rock-hard surface. But right now we have other priorities we are tending to with the Ops Center.

I walked on the field at Liberty and I can see how it can be rock hard. Field Turf is the way to go. I think within about 10 years most people will have it because it's so much more cost effective as opposed to natural grass. You don't hafta worry about resodding, repainting, or anything. If it rains it's just slippery, doesn't completely screw up the entire sod.

1. I believe they were using Field Turf the last 2 yrs at the Vet in Philly. Nice stuff. Even though Mayor Street allegedly rigged the bidding process- never proven though. But I digress.
2. The soccer bleachers thing came up over in Men's Soccer thread- I believe its a done deal- we were discussing where exactly they would put them due to the track. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
