Didn't know where to post this. Hatcher, Chelios, and Draper from the Detroit Red Wings signed with the Motor City Mechanics. They will be playing the Richmond River Dogs in Roanoke April 8 and 9 (Friday and Saturday) and tickes on the glass are only $15 bucks. Just thought someone would be interested

First off, welcome to the board. Thanks for registering.
If your a hockey afficionado (and there are less & less by the minute ... Ugh) then this is a golden opportunity to see some legends for a VERY reasonable price.

I was a BIG Flyers fan- Broad Street Bullies- back in the day. Then Bernie Parent retired (eye injury), then Clarkie, then some bad years. Then we got good again (Petr Zezel, Rick Tocchet, Pelle Lindberg [DEAD in a horrific wreck near my house] ) then we lost the cup- all back in the Mike Keenan era. Like every other Philly sports team, they break our hearts.

New Update - Sean Avery of the Kings and the center from Ottawa (didn't feel like spelling it) have made the jump to the Mechanics!! More bang for your buck!

Before you buy tickets, you might want to make sure that these guys are playing. Rumor has it that at least one of the players (Chelios, I think) is only going to play home games and a few select (i.e. close to Detroit) road games. I hope I'm wrong about that, but like I said...you should probably check it out.

With the big newsconf coming this Wed at 1 PM, looks like Bettman is cancelling the rest of the season. What was the point anyway? This is gonna KILL attendance for the next 3 years and make the money problems WORSE. Pro sports really stink sometimes! (Make that a LOT of the time)

Greed can do some nasty things. Both the owners & players are living myopic lives if they think people really can't live without the NHL. Have any of you guys REALLY missed it? I have to admit I am surprised that I haven't.
The damage from this disastrous situation will be much more longlasting than any of the previous MLB, NBA or NFL work stoppages.

yup, if only because the NHL doesn't have the fan base, history or revenue stream that other pro sports have- its much more of a regional thing.
And no, I have to admit, my life hasn't suffered as a result of the stoppage. Just like in the baseball strike(s).

I think that the cancellation is for the best. A lame-duck season wasn't going to bring back fans, and I hardly think that cancelling the season will alienate anyone else.
I think that this was really the player's fault, how they weren't even willing to negotiate anything with a salary cap until the commish announced that he was planning a press conference to cancel the season. If they had done this months earlier, this would have been avoided.
At least now the owners have a better opportunity to declare an impasse, dissolve the player's association and start over again, under their terms.

yeah, Keith Primeau of the Flyers is saying all the usual garbage about how the owners' greed caused it, yada yada yada... and he's also claiming '05-06 is gonna be a wash. don't know where he got that inside info- but if the players think they can outlast the owners here, I think they're wrong. all this over salary caps to help keep the league solvent! unbelievable. guess they're too dumb to realize where the paychecks come from or how they're funded to begin with!

Greed on both sides is further destroying this already fringe sport. I have never been a Bettman fan and this little charade has only further deepened my disdain for the Stern lackey.
There is a very real possibility next season could be in jeopardy as well. Both sides have already taken their greatest concessions off the table. And now that this season is done, there is no urgency to work on a deal any further. I suspect both sides will take a few months to cool off before starting all over again.
Eventually, both sides will give in to each other's core demands and they will slink back into action with a fanbase despising them. Will it all be worth it at that point?
Sorry Gordon Gecko, greed is not good at all.
