my good friend and former classmate Mickey Guridy received a well deserved promotion. congrats to him! Dr. Park is really shuffling the deck. im sure it will produce results.
LU promotes Guridy to assistant AD Lynchburg News & Advance Wednesday, July 20, 2005
Liberty Athletic Director Thom Park has promoted Mickey Guridy to the new position of assistant athletic director for business operations. Guridy, a 12-year veteran of the department, will serve as its business manager under Park, who replaced Kim Graham as AD this past winter in an effort to improve LU's fundraising.
A 1993 graduate of LU, Guridy will oversee all athletic budgets, define revenue sources, oversee athletic insurance and risk control, assist with game operations at home events and be in charge of special projects for the department.
While assisting Ken Karcher as director of operations for the Flames' football program, Guridy was responsible for the team's budget, scheduling, travel and training and camp organization, while also working closely with the athletic department's marketing department to further the promotion of the program.
Prior his three years at that post, Guridy spent five years as assistant athletic director for budget and marketing (1997-2001) and four years as the ticket office manager and executive director of the Flames Club (1993-96).

Very good news for Mickey - I like the fact things are shaking up a bit. Sometimes change is good. I have felt that we need to take a fresh start with marketing the program, being more aggressive in raising funds for athletics.

Well it looks like the new AD is shaking things up. Change is definitely good especially for this athletic program. It is time for this program to step up to the next and highest level. Looks like we are going in the right direction so far.

With last year's Sweet 16, our program will definatley be recieving more attention and I love the fact that LU is stepping up the promotions. Just to throw it out there, since we are in the Mid-Atlanitc, wouldn't it be great to get some LU games on channels such as Comcast Sports Net or the newly formed MASN, Mid Atlantic Sports Network? Any rumblings on other channels?

I have friends at Comcast Mid-Atlantic in DC/Baltimore and they tell me LU is up for openings they have. We'll see.

Cool, cool. Comcast Sports Net has great original programming and their Sports Rise and Sports Nite are better than SportsCenter, IMO. The newly formed MASN might give them some competition once it gets on Comcast and other cable systems.
LU's Sweet 16 is really opening some doors.

I have done work for Comcast Sportsnet in the past. In fact when I hosted the sports show out of Reston Sportsnet reviewed us a few times but I moved to Lynchburg before we could get picked up....They did show the Liberty/Radford game on Tape delay for free the week before the men won the BS tournament. It was a deal that I brokered on my own on behalf of the Flames Television Network. I had to physically drive the tapes up to Bethesda and drop them off at 1 or 2 in the morning. It was fun to see our telecast reach such a wide audience. They like the production value and would be very interested in showing more games as well. Someone just needs to make it happen because I can only do so much "free work." I think Sly knows what I am talking about.
