Out of curiosity- why aren't more CURRENT students posting on here? Look, if an old timer like me can figure out the web, I KNOW you young bucks who practically LIVE online are out there: downloading and spamming or whatever you do! I'd love to hear a perspective on what is REALLY happening on compus- most of the rest of us live 500 miles away!

There were several message boards that were available when I was in school (as recently as 2003) and there are two reasons why people don't post:
1) they're afraid that if they bash Liberty, they'll get in trouble 2) Liberty finds the message boards that students get on and they ban their IP addresses from being accessed on campus. One LU site was banned FOUR TIMES - (it was like "the truth at LU" - a parody site).

well that explains that. At my age I should probably have expected that kind of thinking from administration down there, but- I must admit- didn't even concieve of it. Not only are we not allowed to disagree, NOW technology is being abused to stifle free expression on the INTERNET. Geez... (sorry, its late on the east coast and I'm cranky!)

Not all students live on campus and use the LU pipe. So off-campus students shouldn't have any trouble getting on here.
I wonder if we are already persona non gratis simply for questioning the athletic department and the contract extension in particular?

Honestly gents, it wasnt until a few years removed from LU that I started to take an interest back in the university. I speak for me and my roomates my senior year. It seemed like most of the memebers of my senior class were very unhappy with Liberty due to experiences that varied from the registrar to cranky professors to the hassle of snitches who were just jealous that you lived off campus. I think LU is getting better with some relaxing of the rules which I think is necessary to foster personal growth, but I will save that someday for the "Off Topic" board......

Yeah the students had a pretty sweet message board going for a while but as soon as some non-positive comments came to light it was immediately blocked. I'm afraid that would be true for this as well. I've been trying to think of a tactful way of letting this place be known on campus without it getting blocked but I've come up empty so far. I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone in the amdin reading this very thread and just decided to block this site because of this conversation. I'm not a student by the way, as I'm sure most of you think I am.

I just don't get that mentality- what does it POSSIBLY hurt to let these kids speak their mind on the internet? Too many years living in a bubble has clouded the judgement of some admin types, IMHO. Leave Lynchburg once a decade maybe- these are good kids for the most part- let'em experience life a little. END OF SERMON.

Well, it's simple - LU has its own dirt - sure, it's not like we're Colorado or Ohio State, but we're not squeaky clean.
Is it significant? Probably not. But you know what happens when a rumor starts. Suddenly, a minor situation gets blown up.
Besides, when I was on campus in the early '00s, there was the infamous "outing"... Last thing LU needed was rumors running wild on that.
Of course, it is my belief that being open and honest about bad things takes the sting away. Plus, the free and open discussion board eventually lets the truth come out... I was mistaken on one issue, pointed it out on a message board (before LU blocked it) and eventually corrected. If I didn't have the board, then rumor would have spread....
(Of course, maybe that's just the journalist in me talking).

Careful now, journalism can be a dangerous thing.

yes, a few notable figures in history all agreed that journalism was dangerous. Much better to let the "state" control what people read and think. maybe LU should appoint a Minister of Propaganda! ok, maybe that one was a BIT extreme!

Well...Jerry does openly say that the "magalogs" (that he hands out to kids at CFAW and other events) are propaganda....

Being here on campus or at least connecting on campus, I just think that students don't know. I think this site is great for discussion even if it is negative. I know I groan when I here news like Ken Karcher gets 5 yr. extension [fits of sobbing and images of no passing attack occurring]. I'm trying to show some fans in the Seminary and get them on. But it's hard when some students are more loyal to schools like Duke or UNC than to their own

1st, welcome aboard- 2nd, good point. I was as guilty as anyone back in the day- following Penn State more than LU. Perspectives change as you age, that's for sure. again, welcome aboard- great for us old hags to have the "on-campus point of view"
