The local lynchburg paper today said that Lou Holtz visited Liberty's campus.
Staff have denied that it was about coaching, they're saying they wanted him to speak at convocation, but they would not confirm that Karcher was getting a new contract.
Sounds like they might be trying to get Holtz...anyone hear anything?? How about that for a Notre Dame connection.

Correction...The article actually says that someone says that Lou Holtz visited but LU denies that he did...just wanted to clarify.

Uh-oh. Looks like Karcher got the dreaded vote of confidence. Not a good sign.
As much as I love Lou Holtz, and as much as I don't think he is finished coaching, I don't see him coming to Liberty. It would be great PR and I'm sure he would win, but Lou (like most successful 1-A coaches) does have an ego, and I don't think that ego would allow him to take a 1-AA job...but it would be great if he did.

IMHO< very unlikley. Also, despite the good PR he recieves, coach Holtz can be pretty "rough" (watch documentaries on him) and- right or wrong- I don't think his conduct would fit the "Liberty Way" (though you can't argue w/ the results he gets!)

Yeah, I don't understand the N&A. They ingore everything about LU like we're the town's dirty little secret and then the print this hogwash. The very idea of this is dumb.

look, I'm no saint myself when it comes to vocabulary- but I've watched this guy pretty closely over the years and SAILORS blush when this guy yells at his players! Jerry's head would come right off after half of a quarter!

This is even more preposterous than Dan Reeves. Come on, why would Holtz retire from his multi-million-dollar contract to immediately come to a low-rent program like Liberty. It makes absolutely no sense. Think about it. And before you bring up Sam, he was a completely different situation.
Lou has a bit of a dirty reputation trailing behind him particularly among the coaching fraternity. And as PAmedic mentions, he does have a VERY colorful language and demeanor that apparently hasn't been tempered much with age.
The bigger news out of this article is the vote of confidence from Graham and Dr. J's refusal to give the same despite ample opportunity. I think this would indicate that they are fishing around for possible candidates to replace Coach Karcher. But time is of the essence. As I mentioned in the other thread, thie next two months are crucial for recruiting. They need to do something.
Frankly, I would be in favor of hiring another younger coach. Preferably someone with a relatively high profile based on his playing career who is looking for a first head coaching gig.
