We're all frustrated beyond belief with the current state of our football program. And while I want to keep this forum as bastion of free speech, I don't feel it is acceptible to turn the discussion of the direction of the football program into a series of personal attacks on anyone.
Let's remember that we welcome fans from other schools to this site and we need to avoid ad hominen diatribes. Its OK to call for accountability for actions, but let's try not to get carried away with our language.
And no matter how disappointed we are with the results on the field, the players are our Liberty brethren.

These are just young boys after all. We only wish them the best life has to offer. I can honestly say you guys have been the nicest message board I have ever read, so that is a hats off to you and yours. I think everyone was just a little overwhelmed because of the sad showings the last 3 weeks. We have next year to think about.. Go Flames..

What always angered me when I was on campus was the "worship the football players" attitude that always existed. It was barely tolerable when we were WINNING. I can only imagine how hard it is to watch this debacle as a current student or staff member down there, what with all the money and resources being poured into the team- and NO good results to show.
Imagine being an athelete on one of our other more successful teams, being virtually ignored while this nonsense goes on over at Hancock. I certainly understand the frustration, and actually feel everyone on this board has been quite respectful, all things considered. Imagine the reaction if it WASN'T the type of people we have at LU- remember Notre Dame when they were perennial losers? Heads were rolling!

That would be hard. Do you think they are still going to worship the football players with this record? maybe the good news here is some of the other sports will get more recognition since it does not seem that anyone will be thrilled with the football program. That is hard when you are a member of one of the teams that is really working hard and not getting any respect. I am sure you guys are ready to scream about now. I think that this has been one of the most odd football seasons I have ever experienced in any program I have ever followed. I am so hoping things look up, I mean scoring would feel like a win at this point....

Some of these athletes at LU act like they own the place. They are no special just like any of the other students. Some of them you can't even talk to because they are athletes. Some of the Men's basketball and Football team act that way. I am sure there are others that act that way too.

That is sad to hear that some of the Athletes act like that.. They should know better than that, it is not a good thing to hear. I think everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time...

Hello guys: I tell you what my nephew is a really nice and down to earth guy, and his Auntie Ann will make sure he always stays that way, I would be very upset with him, if he did not treat others with respect and kindness. I think being an athlete is only a bonus, he has to be a good person first, and I always try to instill that in him, although he really does not need it, he has always been just a real role model to all the young kids in our community.

Guys, the point of this thread was to try and stay away from these types of discussions. Thanks, PAmedic.

How's this...I love listening to my almamater get slaughtered...what a joy it is to hear how they can't score any points...so uplifting to follow the Flames each Saturday...I think I will bake them cookies...so what if they can't block or tackle...it's all a beautiful sight to behold. Is that better?

Very cute, youcantsaythat. I'm all for open discussions of what needs to be done to fix our hideous situation. But making generalizations about football players' personal conduct off the field is not appropriate. Why do I feel like a hall monitor in third grade all of sudden?

No offense Sly Fox but you don't see them off the field like I do. I have seen some of their behavior first hand in school and sometimes I see this behavior. I am not trying to attack anybody but I am saying what I have seen up close and personal. I was some what expanding on what PAmedic said about "worshiping the football players."

The players should not be "Worshipped", I would hope that they would all be men enough to not act like spoiled boys, maybe this season will humble those you say are acting non appropriate..

back in the day, the football players did get away with quite a bit. i always said i could write a book on LU football from 1989-93....a lot of scandalous behavior that was swept under the rug!

Its the same way with men's basketball...its this way at just about every school, no matter where you go...you can't control it, the only thing you can control is yourself and how you represent your school (in this case, LU)...therefore, lets lbe examples and live our lives according to the Word and not like how we want too.

It's just great to read things like "let's be examples and live our lives according to the Word." As alluded to, it's not always easy, but always right, and it's just wonderful to be on a board with men (and or women) who have such conviction. Thanks

Well it looks like we all are stuck with Karcher for another five years, unless someone has the guts to fire him. Since Sam R. We have not had decent team.

I know back in the 80's the Football Team would come in Saga in the morning after their workouts and push people out of the line or butt in front of the line. The Lacrosse team later would start having workouts in the morning too and we would go to Saga in our workout stuff. We had something the Football Players did not have. It was called a Lacrosse stick. Let me tell you we were the Guardians of the Cafeteria because when we walked through Saga in the morning nobody butted in line while we were caring our Lacrosse Sticks including Football Players.
On the football team like I have said in earlier posts. These are young men ages 18-22 that are Students and some times we forget that. We just need to support them for now no matter what their record is and at the end of the season discuss changes that need to be made.
