Groh said Rocco and D'Onofrio will help him in UVa's preparation for the bowl. Chad Wilt, a former graduate assistant who joined Rocco's staff at Liberty, will assist in the secondary, which Golden used to oversee. Groh said he will personally work with the secondary as well.
A former two-time college football All-American, Chad Wilt is in his second season as Virginia's graduate assistant coach for the defense, working closely with the defensive backs.
Wilt joined the Cavalier coaching staff after spending three years as the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator at Central Connecticut State University. During his final season there, in 2003, he was nominated for the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
Wilt's coaching resumé also includes a spring as an assistant coach at William & Mary and one season as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Taylor University (Indiana).
Wilt earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from Taylor in 2000. He captained the football team as a senior and was twice named a second-team NAIA All-American at defensive end. He was a three-time All-Conference performer and a two-time Academic All-Conference selection.
The 27-year-old Wilt is a native of Upland, Ind. His father Steve is the head football coach at Taylor and has previously coached at John Handley High School in Winchester, Va., James Madison University and Wingate University.
