Well, let's start the thread. William & Mary was rated #7 in I-AA going into last week's game against Rhode Island, but they lost... So they'll be looking for some measure of revenge against us on Saturday. With the exception of that loss, Bill and his wife also smoked VMI 41-7, and lost a closer-than-you'd-guess game against Marshall, 36-24. Key player is running back Elijah Brooks, who is in the top 10 in D-IAA for rushing yards. By the way, here is a priceless resource for statistics: web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/Internet/ranking_summary/2005000000355.HTML

I saw most of the W & M-Rhode Island game. W & M struggled against the option, leaving the middle of the field and down field open for Rhode Island recievers. Rhode Island has a very athletic QB and didn't show any passing game the week before. With LU running option plays now I was thinking maybe the Flames would have a better chance against the Tribe. After Saturday's 42-0 loss to Youngstown, now I'm not so sure. Liberty has to find someone besides Zach Terrell who can make things happen on offense.

Here is the message board for our friends in Williamsburg: www.caazone.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=11The Tribe tend to have very knowledgable posters and our very passionate about their team. Despite their shocking loss this past weekend, they are a very stout team who will certainly be focused and ready to right their ship. For the record, I'd love to see us develop a continued relationship with the school. They are geographically appealing to future scheduling. It'd be nice if we could be somewhat competitive. But considering where our team is right now, I don't think that's likely.

Itwould be ideal for LU to establish relationships with all the A10 Virginia schools such as JMU, Richmond, and W & M, and other quality div 1 schools that are close but our lack of competitiveness would tend to force them look elsewhere for games that would have more meaning. I was hoping that it could get us in a competitive conference such as the A10 or Southern just by playing these teams every year but as it stands they are just "turning their noses up at us" and write LU off as being a substandard football team in a weak conference. Yes, we have fallen that far. Just look at the results the last few years and you know what I am referring to. (JMU 49 LU 7 2 years ago, W&M 37 LU 17 last year). There are many more examples but I want to keep this short. The JMU's of the world are just not taking us seriously any more considering the fact that dispite all the talk of us one day competing at 1A we have lowered our standards so far as to competitive in a garbage conference as the big south.
Who knows what the carnage will be this Saturday. I am expecting a 50 point loss. That could singal the end of that relationship for next year and for any other A10 school who is also considering playing us in the near future.

geez! the amount of negativity on this board is killing me! yes we are a bad team, no we are not going to be in a new conference any time soon. this has nothing to do with our play on the field right now. it is just the landscape of college athletics right now. i too hope we can continue to foster relationships with other virginia schools, and eventually get back to being competitive. it is a dunting task this weekend, one i do not think we can win, but let's hope the boys can make a game of it and show they have some heart and no quit in them!

William and Mary 60 LU 0
I'm losing confidence! Hopefully they can prove me wrong.

W & M 54 LU 7
Yes we will finally score some points against W & M's second unit. As we have shown many times in the past we can't compete against these types of teams and W & M is going to be fired up after getting embarrassed last week vs Rhode Island.

Question. What LU team holds the record for consecutive shutouts? That record could be in jeopary this year. Nothing like hanging up the "ol goose egg".

LU has never been shut out more than twice in a season.

Hope all of you are coming to Williamsburg on Saturday. We're looking forward to hosting you, and I think you'll enjoy our gameday atmosphere. We're not too high on ourelves right now, so I don't think you'll see many from our side making predictions.
I fear the series with Liberty may be over after this year. Our fans just don't have alot of interest. Part of that was the attendance at your place last year, which was really disappointing. Most of us at W&M want to see a series with Hampton University, and that would rule out Liberty since we have VMI and ACC schools scheduled for several years to come.
How is Zach Terrell playing? After our debacle at URI last week, I have had visions of him making his name against us.

don't be too concerned! bearing in mind I haven't personally seen him play- I hear he has a lot of talent, but he's very young.

Tribe -- Thanks for the kind words. We're also disappointed with the turnout at Williams Stadium these days. That's part of the reason we have had a change in ADs. We're working on plans to remedy some of our off the field issues. I'd love for us to develop a relationship with W&M in a number of sports. But I understand the predicament with scheduling in football. At some point, VMI may throw up their hands in disgust and you know we'd be happy to fill that void. I wish I were able to be there in Williamsburg Saturday. You guys have a gorgeous campus and stadium. But I'm going to be busy putting up plywood in anticipation of Rita. As for Zach, the question is not HOW he is playing but IF he is playing. He has unquestionably been the best offensive weapon on our team thus far this season. But this past weekend our staff decided to use a 3-QB rotation ... a senior and two true freshmen. Keep an eye on this board and you'll hear plenty more about this unpleasant scenario. We absolutely need to have Zach on the field as much as possible whether its at QB or elsewhere. He's a playmaker.

I can understand Karcher's hesitation throwing Zach to the wolves right now. I can't see a 3 QB rotation. I also can't see rotating QB's in the same drive. I would give Zach a quarter to play QB. Same goes for Brock Smith. At this point I would say Farrel gets one maybe two more starts - if things continue to go poorly - then I am playing the kids and gearing up for 2006.

Number one, we seem to have a disproportionate number of quarterbacks named "Brock" on the team.
Number two, Brock Smith and Zach Terrell are both freshmen. They are months removed from being in high school, meaning that they are young. Usually it is our policy to redshirt guys... To pull them off the sidelines just for one play, and then to put them back on isn't just an asinine way of approaching game strategy - how can a WR get used to a quarterback if it changes every 48 seconds - but by pulling them off, Karcher effectively removed a year of eligibility from them.
I can understand if you do that because you want to give them some game experience before one of them has to assume the role next season (cause Farrell is graduating), but I don't think either of them are getting the experience they need... by playing one play.
Hmmm... What about Tauvarus Dove, the redshirt sophomore? Why can't he be a third-string quarterback. He's 5-9, so I assume he can be a running QB... I've never seen Dove play, but if the guy can run - that means we have a different offensive structure - and maybe that's what we need to - as Karcher said - jumpstart the offense... rather than just slotting in a one of three guys cut from the same mold.
Hmmm... maybe this isn't a bad idea. Well, maybe it is.

i knew someone would take my comments wrong. this is the place to vent and voice displeasure, but we are 1-2, soon to be 1-3, but we are 0-0 in the big south. hopefully by the time we play coastal and Gardner-Webb we will have matured a bit, and are able to compete. i know he have been beat up the past few weeks, but let's throw out UConn, and focus on the rest of the season, I believe we can improve and win some games. the saeson is not over yet!

The only game i went to last year was William and Mary during my vacation up there. i thought the turnout was alot from both schools. Yeh we got beat handly but W and M were good last year and gave UNC trouble last year. Our schedule is just tough period. Youngstown St. is an established AA program and UCONN and W and M are good. Were yall honestly not expecting a 1-3 start? This brings up a question though that i have been wrestling with since Saturday. Should AA teams continue to play 1a? Yeh money is good and all but when you got teams like Texas Tech that are putting 80 points on these Sam Houston st's, does it honestly do anything positive for these AA teams besides kill their confidence. I can see if UCONN came to Lynchburg but not us going up there. There fans dont care if they play LU but our fans care if we play UCONN at home. I dunno, i guess im just fuming from the nonsense Texas Tech pulled Saturday

To answer your question, Yes. These I-A games are help keep programs like ours afloat. And beyond the monetary benefits, just being able to tell a recruit that they'll have the opportunity to play at Big East or ACC school has its major advantages.
Obviously, it has its drawbacks. But I'm all for scheduling as many of them as we can.

I would like to see a QB get a quarter to prove himself as well. Noone is going to be able to feel confident in the offense when people are in and out of every play. The offense is a disaster at this point.
I've never been to W&M and am planning to this week--anyone know about parking and ticket prices?
