There are folks taking shots at ground level... I see them there every game. The guy mentioned above, Les Schofor, works for the school... he does the yearbook stuff too and I see him at all the games.

I certainly don't want to sound defensive...but we have 20 shots from this year that were taken on the sideline at the UCONN game. (The one below of Zach maybe the best I've seen in a while.) The four shots from the higher angle was taken by a friend of mine in the stands just to be able to get some shots of the red uniforms up. Unlike most of the other sports, I can't personally take shots during the football games because of my radio obligations, so I usually get someone to shoot a game or two a year for me. (I sometimes try to get some stuff myself during warm-ups but games are hard... you can hear the shutter clicking on the radio ) A former grad and current sports editor in Falmouth, Mass, Rich Maclone shot the UCONN game and I am working on getting someone to shoot the GW game as well. Former Champion photog, Ted Woolford, lives in Charlotte. I am far from a photo expert, but I thought the quality of the pictures was fairy good. I thought Rich's UCONN pics were great. Some of our stuff in the Vines center can be a bit grainy (night soccer too)... the lighting in those places is not very good, so you have to shoot 1600 speed. Also, I have noticed the program I use to "dumb" down the high res photos to make them web sized can cause a little bit of pixillation in the edges and take some of the quality away. I have tried to experiment to clean that up but our web design program only allows a file be so big and in order to have the "click to enlarge" feature we have to compress the files which can take some of the quality away. (All the more reason for folks to buy prints from us and support the radio station and justify me spending all the time it takes to shoot the games and upload the photos ) One of our goals when we set up the "Flames Sports Network" picture pages was to fill the void in pictures of LU sports on the web. We had hoped it might also be a small revenue generator for the radio station to justify the time spent keeping it updated. We have had a few parents and players buy prints but I can promise you we aren't canceling our Share-a-thon anytime soon. It seems as if it is just a cool way to generate some traffic to our site and keep me busy. Also, I think someone had mentioned that some of the pages had not been updated in a while. Check back now... we have new stuff added in the last month or so from just about every sport. With our new website, it is much easier to keep it updated. In the past it would take me the better part of the summer to update all the sports (considering there is unfortunately more to do at a radio station than photo processing) ... now it is a lot easier to update as the season goes along. That may change when the crunch of basketball hits but right now I hope to have stuff up before each team's season is over. In case someone is reading this and has no clue what I am talking about it is at www.flamessports.com under "FSN Sports Photos" Please keep the suggestions coming... if it wasn't for this board I would have never known how much people wanted to see the red uniforms.

fsn ... (Sorry for the unintentional outing)
I don't think anybody here was attempting to dog you or your site. I think most of our frustration is aimed at the official site. The SIDs seem to be more focused on putting together game notes that practically no one takes the time to read (Trust me, I know) than they are putting current pics up on the school's website. I know which one will have the greatest impact on the buying public and potential recruits.
Major ups go to Rich for the UConn pics. Those were top flight all the way.
For the record, the station's website does a great job of filling the gap left by the official site. I realize its a ton of work but it is appreciated. Back in the day when I was involved in the station in its infancy we never envisioned some of the cool stuff you guys are doing. But truthfully, we hadn't even heard of the WWW yet.

Sly, Thanks for the kind words... we try to keep up with the times as best we can. If you are ever in town... come by and take a tour, you wouldn't recognize the place. (Other than the carpet )

Yeah- props for the UConn and VMI pix- both very nice and exactly what we were screaming for. Also, no offense but SOMEBODY oughta be shooting 2-3 rolls per game, not just 20 shots over the first 4 games. Just my opinion; I realize $ is probably the factor, and this oughta be the Champion staff's issue, NOT the radio station! And I did post on some other thread that for all my whining, The Light online is updated w/ 2005 pix all over the place. Keep 'em coming!

And I did post on some other thread that for all my whining, The Light online is updated w/ 2005 pix all over the place. Keep 'em coming! Medic, I don't think it is all financial. Everyone shoots digital now so it is more of a time issue. For us, 20 shots from a specific game is about average. Rich, for example, took over 100 shots and I picked out the best 20 (minus the one's he got of the UCONN cheerleaders ) 20% is a pretty good rate. The Volleyball pictures I have are from two games. I am a bit more liberal with my trigger finger, so I took about 200 shots per game and got about 70 total from the two games that I uploaded to the internet. I could have put more but there would have been some that looked almost the same. Basically, I try to get the cream of the crop (and then crop the cream to make them even creamier.) Sorry, bad photoshop joke... Anyway, I can't speak for Athletics or The Champion... but I do know that it is time consuming. As far as Sports Info... I believe they are tied into a contract and the company does milk them everytime they add stuff to their site. I don't think they are happy with that site and I believe they are getting out of that deal and going to an on campus server like us when the contract is up. That should help. Their photographer, Les Schofer, is also battling recently diagnosed colon cancer... but to his credit, I have seen him at the last two football games. He is a great guy... please keep him in your prayers.

Sly, Medic is going to get on you for using fsn32's real name ;-). I think the pics on the Light website are great! Keep it up. Once the contract is up with the web hosting company, the athletic dept website will improve too I am confident...I am going to be praying earnestly for Les Schofer. Makes me sad because he seems like a great guy. Thanks for the info. (He took the picture of my Dunk from 1990 that I won't let go away!). I should put the poster on Ebay! medic would buy it. In fact I will eliminate the middle man and the next time you are in town Medic, I will let you come to the house and check it out.

I guess SLY can do that, he IS the GLOBAL MODERATOR you know! And here we go with the dunk again. Its convienient that it occurred in the DARK at Liberty Gym and NO ONE else saw it. I don't even believe there is a real pic of it- like I told you and SOOTHIE, I'm pretty sure its all a scam! And FSN32, I apologize. I misunderstood you to mean they only SHOT 20 pix per game, and I had the same number in mind (@ 100 being better to pull some good ones). Have beat this one to death! What you guys are putting up looks great!
