Highlight one regarding QB situation...looks like the final decision still hasn't been made:
"Are your plans to go with three quarterbacks again against William & Mary?
I am not sure that we plan to do that. We wanted to give Brock Smith a couple of reps last week and hopefully even some more this week because there were a couple of things that he is doing well. I would say going into this game, you are going to see Zach Terrell get the majority of the game and then we will play it by ear at what the need is. If Zach needs to be settled down and if there are some things that he is not doing well, than you might see one of the other guys. There is a chance that all three could play, but that is certainly not ideal, but we are trying to do what’s best for the whole team."

Highlight #2...Another quesion on who the QB would be, still not sure...
"When you go back and look at the quarterback situation, you have said that it wasn’t ideal. Do you try and change things up this week and settle on a one or two quarterback rotation and how is that affecting the offense?
I am not sure that it is affecting others. Definitely, I would like to get settled in on one and maybe two quarterbacks, but the difficulty in that right now is that Zach Terrell is going to continue to get more and more time. However, in fairness to Zach, even with what he is doing, he is going to make freshman mistakes. He is not ready to handle everything yet. I am trying to be fair with his mental framework as well. I don’t want him to get out there and be unsuccessful. A couple of times, we had to use timeouts on Saturday night, because he couldn’t get the play called. We had a silent sneak that we didn’t get done properly. There are some issues with him because he is a freshman, but he will continue to play more. We have to get Brock Smith ready because they are the two quarterbacks of the future. He has lots of ability throwing the football. Brock Farrel is the sort of the guy that manages the game well. He is our senior, so when things seem to be going wrong, you try to get him in to settle the game. I would say as time goes, the two freshmen are going to get more and more time and Brock (Farrel) is going to get less."

Highlight #3...Oh great, and look at this quote...the question seems to be about Brock Farrell, but the answer says Brock Smith...
"...With Brock Farrel in as quarterback for the most part?
Yes, we will pick our spots as we need to get Brock Smith time. And what I think you are going to see in time is that he is as exciting as Zach Terrell, but throwing the football. We just have to pick our spots to get him some time."

Highlight #4, it looks like many things are undetermined, undecided, etc.
"Q:Do you try and change things up this week and settle on a one or two quarterback rotation... A: I am not sure...
Q: Are your plans to go with three quarterbacks... A: I am not sure...
Q: Will Zach (Terrell) start this Saturday? A: I' m not sure...
Q: Which quarterback do you think you will see against William and Mary? A: I don't know...
Q: When Brock Farrel is gone, who do you see evidentaly stepping forward... A: Obviously, I am not looking that far ahead, but I think that is a good question...
Q: Is there any thought to redshirting (Ryan) Greiser this season? A: ...we are probably going to make that decision this week...

Really, I don't mean to be negative, and I know some decisions take time (we have to see what's wrong with Greiser's shoulder.)
But there are a lot of question marks...and it looks like we're already looking towards next year. (at least Karcher said he wasn't looking that far ahead).

Thanks for going to all the work of transcribing all that, Jim. It doesn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement for Farrel. But I'm sure Ann appreciated the nice things about Smith.

Nutshell, which will be fleshed out in tomorrow's story: 1. Brock Farrel is being slowly phased out of the offense, but he'll still start at W&M. 2. Zach Terrell will be on the field "90 percent of the time" in some capacity. 3. Brock Smith will see some time, especially if the W&M game turns into a rout. He's not going to put Farrel in to mop up that game. He'd put Smith in. 4. He still wants to play Terrell at several positions. 5. From talking to all three QBs, I sense a great deal of frustration in the way things are being handled, but they're smart and not speaking out about their coach in the media. 6. My head is about to explode. Duck!

Thanks for the preview, Chris. If we had kids voicing their frustration to the media I would certainly be shocked. That's not Liberty's style in general. Now our fans .... It sounds like Smith is showing some zip on the ball in practice. But he obviously will need to time to learn how to decipher the hidden coverages so common in the college game.

It does seem like Karcher isn't sure on much. I hope that he's in the clear that 3 QB rotation isn't his best idea. For an offensive coach, he doesn't seem to be hitting on much.
I feel sorry for the 3 QB's, I'm sure they're all tired of this stuff already. Poor Brock Farrel, I'm sure he feels pretty down about these comments. I don't think he's shown much, but I think that they need to let the guys fight it out for the starting spot, and they're not going to be able to showcase any skills when noone is getting consistent time on the field. What the coaching staff did on Saturday was ridiculous, I hope it's not repeated this week at W&M.

I think it's funny how Karcher's grand scheme has blown up in his face. With his first recruiting class, he brought in Kyle Painter and Gus Condon, a JUCO transfer. Both were scheduled to redshirt the following year to learn the system (and let Biff Parsons play out his senior year), and then have Gus take over, and then Painter take over after that (and subsequently, J.R. Barley and/or Travis Johnson).
Everything was mapped out... Now everything needs to be mopped up.

Hi Everyone, thank you for the important questions about the QB situation. I was glad to see some good info about Brock Smith. I really do feel bad for all 3 of those guys what a crazy circus. I hope some good things...
