LU got destroyed 91-65. The article at libertyflames.com makes it seem like it was a back and forth game for a while. High scorer Blair with 15 followed by Dees. We got pounded on the boards 42 to 33. And our 3 point shooting sucked. They had 5 guys score double digits to our 2. Robinson only played 13 minutes and Monroe played 14, so i think Lightbourne played C for most of the game. All in all it was somewhat what i expected.

I wish I could say that it was all I expected. But getting blown out by Arkansas State is embarassing. We're not talking about the Razorbacks here, we are talking about Arkie State. My feeling is we probably just wanted to get out of Jonesboro as fast as possible and that's why they shut it down in the second half.
An 0-2 start is hardly encouraging, especially considering the level of competition. Let's hop Coach Dunton can find some rotations that can get this team in a rhythm.

I know it's not THE arkansas. But ASU is pretty good. Their coach came last year and was a speaker in convo. They gave us a rundown of his resume and his team has been a very good mid-major. They are usually the top 2 in their conference. We lost to them on a last second shot last year but we were playing way over our heads. They're just a much better program than us at this point so I expected to get defeated handidly.

Well, I was dissappoint in the loss as well, but I did expect LU to lose.
I guess what happened since Dunton took over two years ago and made us competitive, and then last year when we had a great team considering what we have gone through the last 5 years...now the bar seems set pretty high.
To me this is still sort of a rebuilding year. We lost a lot of the transfers that helped us get good quick (Sarchet, Mantlo, & Martin). It looks like next year is going to be a better year with Elijah Miller and the new freshman point guard that's supposed to be pretty good. Dees and Blair are solid already.
December & January look really rough. I'd be happy with wins over Shenandoah & UNC Greensboro if they could pull those off - most of the rest look like sure loses, UNC Greensboro will be a tough test as well. And then with Woodson back, maybe LU could get it together and take most of the Big South home games, go something like 9-7 in the big south. That would put us something like 11-16 on this year...we were only 18-15 last year I think, so that wouldn't be bad for a rebuilding year.
Next up...West Carolina, another tough road game.

LUconn, I'm going to have to take you to task. Arkie State plays in the Sunbelt which is not much better than the Big South. Every few years, they'll have a school step up from the dregs. But in general, the constant merry-go-round that is Sunbelt membership is pretty pathetic. I see plenty of Arkie State and their lame Sunbelt cohorts down here in Texas all the time. They schedule our Southland, WAC and C-USA schools all the time to fill out schedules. As for their coach, I may have to rescind my LU alumni status if we are letting a Nutt come and speak. I don't know this one of the Nutt boys at all. But I am VERY familiar with a couple of his brothers. His big brother Houston is the idiot who danced around on the field at the Cotton Bowl a few years back making 'Horns Down' hand signs .... Extremely low class. Then I covered another of the Nutt boys regularly at Southwest Texas (now Texas State). Let's just say something was smelling funny Denmark (or San Marcos in this case). Maybe the Arkie State brother is the one decent one of the bunch. But as a Texan, the jury is definitely still out til I see evidence otherwise. ;D Bottom line, we should not be entering contests with other mid-major slugs thinking we have no chance. If we do, then we are worse off than I originally thought. Maybe that is the case. I prefer to keep wearing my rose-colored glasses.

Sunbelt was ranked 16th last year vs the Big South's 29th of 32. ASU lost to memphis by 4 this year. I guess we'll just disagree on this one.
But yes, it was a Nutt. thingyey Nutt to be specific. And yes we let him have it all game long. He now knows that his name is humorous on a few different levels. Just in case he had never heard that before.

The gap between the majors and mid-majors is enormous with a few obvious minor exceptions. Sunbelt, Big South, Southern Conference ... they are all relatively insignificant in general. But every now and then somebody busts out for a year or two. Wouldn't it be nice to be that somebody?
