I signed up for the e-mail newsletter sent out by the athletic department last year and it just dawned on me I have never received one. Do any of you get the newsletter? Maybe my spam filter is too aggressive and all of mine get blocked.
just wondering. Go Flames.

I haven't signed up for it. The thing that gets me is it takes so long for them to get scores and stories up on the site. Good thing we have ESPN.com

Good point. I sent a note to the athletic department suggesting that they update the site more frequently - even if it's just "filler" material. It looks bad when the site stays stagnant.

I have signed up for it too a long time ago, and I have never received a newsletter. That didn't make me happy at all. Maybe they don't have one who knows.

Yeah, I signed up as well back when they first listed it on the site. And I've never seen anything. I think it must have been a well-intentioned idea that never was put into practice.

It would be nice to see the site also feature what happened to... featuring former athletes such as the Kisselva's, Fricke and all of those other great women's basketball plaers.
jamie Hall's flamessports.net is much better with the online content. THe online streaming and downloading capabilities of big games is great.

Thanks for the web site link. I didn't even know the other site existed.

Jamie's site is great for pics. But otherwise, its not particularly strong on content. But its great to have an additional source for material.
Its good to see what once was WLBU still plugging along two decades after I was helping in its infant stages.

the info that does get posted is always old old old. my guess is that it's due to typical LU censorship/"editing for content". a better plan would be off-site or not directly connected to admin but I guarantee they will never allow it (for obvious control issues.) just the way it goes and I can't say I blame them.

I did get my alum "Magazine" or brochure or whatever that 4 page thing was they sent out last week, appears to be edited by the new guy in charge of alumni affairs. Basically promoting homecoming weekend in Sept.

I like the idea of e-mail newsletters to keep people engaged. Plus you could build a pretty simple CRM tool off of the e-mail list. You could blast upcoming promotions - season ticket info, etc.
I also recommend during the slow months of summer they use some "filler" stuff like a where are they now piece or two. Maybe even a few stories on the early football teams that practiced on the island and were promised "flying on jets to away games" when they were first recruited. There was an article in the 1988 media guide about Chip Smith and some of the first Flames players. great material and we are looking to build some history and tradition. It's right under our noses - we just need to develop vehicles to get the message out. E-newsletters are a very cheap way to get mulitple hits to your fan base via a CRM system.
Prototype are you there?

sounds like you have a good case for some sub-contracting PR work - tell 'em you'll do it for $250.00 /hr.
