Concerned about this year...yeah I am.... I believe we'll finish 3rd or 4th...I just dont understand how you want to fire the guy b/c he's not TOP 50 LIKE HE SAID HE WOULD but wins and finish's no lower than 2nd every year he has been here...you act like we're a national Dynasty here and 2nd in the Conf. is no good only national titles...he's allowed to have a rebuilding year...and this just might be it

I think we just found our problem some LU fans are Impossible to play or coach for...there's not much more you could ask out of someone then those last 3 seasons... That is exactly it! For some reason our fans think they have some sort of entitlement to do better than finishing 2-1-2. That is unbelievable. What has LU ever done that makes you think John Wooden himself could do any better? "Bubububut under Meyer..." Guess what kiddos, it's 2005. Dunton isn't exactly on course with his top 50 plan but I think it's a little more difficult that he was making it seem. This job has turned into the Nebraska football HC job only without the history.

My only concern is all the player turnover. Is it not adjusting to LU? Is it Coach Dunton? Is it the players not wanting to put forth the effort Coach Dunton routinely demands? So what? Coach conducts his program with integrity, and I'd be willing to bet that some of the departures did not have the character needed to play for a Dunton coached team. 2-1-2 speaks for itself. Give the coach a break and quit the whining. We look forward to basketball every year as a welcome change from the football woes, and now we are down--probably for THIS YEAR ONLY. Support the coach and support the players. If this continues into NEXT season, then I think there might be cause for concern.

i have not seen anyone in this thread demand for the coaches head. i think we can all agree that losing to longwood and the mount is unacceptable. i think we can also agree that dunton has done some good things while at LU. i think we can agree that player attrition has hampered the teams progress. i really do hope we get better and show well in the big south, but with just larry blair showing up, we will not win many games. now is this coaching or is it just the players not doing what they need to do to improve. did coach D not recruit these players? maybe its the new assistants? the coach is always going to be the fall guy when the team is losing. i believe coach D is handling things fine, and will hopefully right the ship. there will always be apologists, people who want coaches fired, and people in the middle. we all want a winner at LU, but we can all express our feelings on this situation, and IF things continue on this pace you will see more and more people wanting a change. now let's go out and beat UPR-Mayaguez.

Me, neither, but it amazes me how danged critical people are being. Certainly, we don't want to be a bunch of lemmings, but we need to have just a little bit of patience.

I guess I'm being labled an apologist here which is funny because I'm normally pretty swift to want people gone. But I'll defend Dunton until I can see that he's bringing the program down or running in place too long. Don't get me wrong, I certainly dont' want to see a 5 year extention carelessly thown at him *cough cough*

Longwood must be pretty good at home. I wonder how they got Valpo to go there?

I had to chime in -
My judgement is reserved for the end of the season. A full season will let you examine the ups and downs of the season to truly pinpoint issues and deal with them appropriately.
As far as the season to date - there was an exodus of key players and assistants prior to the first game's tip off. I dont think we can pin it all on Dunton unless the same exact thing happens next year. Then - maybe it is him (the old fool me once - shame on you, fool me twice - shame on me).
As far as being pro or con for Coach Dunton. I am an alumnus and I support the team. I dont think a few games lost we should of won means we fire a coach, but we need to look at precedent and future goals and evaluate everything (including the W-L). I will do so at the end of the season.

For what it is worth, MSM took Chatty to OT today. So perhaps they aren't as poor as their record indicated.

Fellas,
at the risk of sounding like an apologist, I think this team has made improvements this year. I expect to beat Mt, Longwood and maybe Lipscomb but this is division 1 basketball and Every night you can go out and lose. Quite honestly I think this team just doesn't know how to finish games yet. It is a process but I think Doug Stewart, Anthony Smith and Russell Monroe will all be key contributors to this team during Big South play. I enjoy all the opinions on here though and I love how everyone says their opinions and tries to back it up with why they feel that way. This is good stuff in my opinion because too many times these things turn ugly on message boards. I say, reserve judgement, support this team and see where we end up in Big South Play. I can't wait to see this team in Jan for the HPU opener!
