ok- thank God the internet is or can be a silent media,
why, you ask with baited breath? well- because I'm now temporarily (I hope) DEAF.
35 yrs old and I went to a Stryper concert last night in a small club (@500 people) in Allentown (trash heap of Eastern PA). key mistake- 5 or 6 rows from the stage + no earplugs= now deaf.
In a word- they ROCKED. Music I haven't heard in 20 years- better than ever. And these guys looked healthy and happy as well. A major difference between what anyone from the glam rock era has seen from the Crue, G&R, or any contemporary band of the 80s. And Michael Sweet hasn't lost a STEP w/ that voice. UNBELIEVABLE. Even the other half was impressed- and she went along to make me happy- but bought into the whole thing as a result!
More later when my hearing and balance returns. IDIOT

I'm about 50% deaf in my right ear and it is directly attributed to my time as a DJ there in Lynchburg/Roanoke in the Late '80s playing Stryper among others.
Their concert at EC Glass during their Soldiers Under Command tour was one of the first times the group began to gain a higher profile on campus. By the time To Hell with the Devil was released, they were a mainstream success and playing all the arena venues.
I'm glad to hear they have aged more gracefully than their arena rock contemporaries. I'm guessing their lifestyle choices might've had something to do with it.

exactly what we were talking about at home this AM over breakfast- when you live the lifestyle they sing about, it makes a BIG difference. They are the real deal. Compared to Axl Rose- well, there's no comparison.
and you'll all be glad to know my hearing returned, enough to listen that excuse of a football game until I got nauseous.

Robert Sweet needs to part with the '80s do. Otherwisem they don't look TOO bad for a group of middle-aged dudes.

they actually looked much better on stage, sans those hideous promo-shot outfits. And discerning fans will notice Tim Gaines is no longer w/ the group- replaced on bass by Tracy Ferrie (far right in the pic)
