No, I don't live anywhere near Michigan. I'm just a huge Pistons fan who grew up idolizing Isiah Thomas. Even when they lost the first finals series to the Lakers, he was the best player on the court, and that was while playing hurt.

I am glad someone else out there appreciates Isaiah like I do. I think he is one of the Greatest of All Time and he does not get mentioned like Magic, Bird, Jordan, etc. He was an unbelievably gifted athlete with amazing skill to go with it. ESPN classic and other outlets like that don't treat Isaiah with the same reverence and respect as they do the others from his era.

That's because Isiah (not with the Biblical spelling) was such a punk to everybody. If you wamnt to be remembered fondly, it helps to play nice with the media. Just ask your Philly boy Steve Carlton who has gone overboard the other direction in recent years trying to make up for three decades of arrogance & condescendance.
All that said, I hated Isiah as a kid when he was playing for Knight. But he had mad skills that made everyone around him so much better than they really were. As a Piston, he was the smiling face on a team of unrepentant thugs. A great player whose legacy will always be tainted by association with that group (Joe Dumars being the lone classy guy of that Pistons era).

I don't know a lot of those Pistons personally. I have met John Salley and he is a wild boy let me tell you. I met Rodman when he played with Julius in San Antonio and words don't need to be wasted on his antics. But to say Dumars is the only class guy from that group is short sighted. Isiah is a successful former owner, television announcer and current GM. He gets his rep because he and Jordan didn't get along and everyone sided with Jordan. Just like everyone sides now with Shaq over Kobe. You think Bird and Doc didn't talk trash, call shots in the games and occasionally manhandle the media? Of course they did. Can't compare Isaiah to Carlton because Carlton refused to talk with the media at all. Isaiah was not like that and that is why he made a smooth transition into becoming a member of the media. Steve Carlton could have been the best color commentator ever and he would not have gotten a job in a million years....I think off the court Laimbeer is ok, James Edwards seemed to be classy and there are others but because of the way they played, I think those old Pistons get a bad wrap.

When you think about the players on those two championship teams, they are one of the best teams ever: Thomas, Dumars, Vin Johnson, Rodman, Lambeer, Edwards, Salley
Im not saying THE best. Im just saying they deserve to be thrown into the argument

Don't forget Mark Aquire.
It's kind of sad that the media's opinion is the only one that matters, because I could care less what most of them think.

ALUmnus, you have a few media people on this board including Sly Fox and myself (although it is not my day job) . I don't much care for them (us) shaping public opinion either. Which is why I made up my own mind about the Bad Boys of the 80s and hold them in high esteem. Truthfully I don't even like to judge athletes and entertainers or pastors or politicians for what they do in their personal lives. Although pastors and politicians should be held to a higher standard for obvious reasons. People talk about kicking people off American Idol for stuff they did in the past. Who cares what they did 5 years ago. I don't. Unless they pulled an OJ or something then that is different. The truth is nearly everyone in the public eye would make our eyes pop out if we knew 100% of every action and word they ever did or spoke in their entire lives. That goes for most of the general population as well. Not many "perfect people" out there.

Running the CBA into the ground has to do good for Thomas' rep to. All i know is when he coached the Pacers, myself and the city was never to fond of the man...just not a Hoosier type guy, was not a great PR guy...at all.
probably needless to say...i hate the pistons also so its somewhat of a bias...but i hate the pistons of my age, i was still playing with my GI Joes during the Bad Boy days

I'm covering Game 7 of the Rockets/Mavs series in Dallas tomorrow. All you East Coasters have missed a great series out here in the West. Yeah, yeah ... I know the Pistons are WAY better than everybody else.

Um, the games are still on TV, no matter where they are, so we've been able to watch the series. And it has been an awesome series. I think the Seattle/San Antonio series has the potential to be a very good one, if Ray Allen can keep the rest of his team playing well.

It do or die time tonight, the best part about the playoffs...
I am rooting for the Pacers obviously....but I have a good feeling about one thing...I can't see Reggie letting his last game be played in Boston, they might not make it any further after this, but i just do not see him going down yet....
The Rockets/Mavs has aslo been very exciting...Tmac is doing some unbelievable things but i think it really comes down to how well Sura, Wesley, and Mike James play...it seems whether Yoa plays good or bad...the outcome waivers...but when those three play good as a core, and im talking just solid nights 10-12 pts and some good D...thats really what I think decides the games.

Schools out...and I finally made it home last night...to Conseco Fieldhouse that is...it was amazing...especially after the incredible game. Hopefully Pacers can win game 4, it would be big, but its still amazes me what this team is doing. Loved Rick Carlisle's comments last night to in his press conference, if u didnt see them..its all over ESPN
It is a true rivalry, Tight defensive no free lay up game.. any Piston fan in the house was being booed all the way to their cars, the only difference is fans in indiana drink their beers....not throw them, and the other highlight of the evening was David Stern getting the 2nd loudest Boooo's of the night (ben wallace introduction took 1st) as he showed his face at halftime....not a popular guy in Indy to say the least.
Lookin foward to game 4, which we will be in the house again...just look up behind the bench, ill be the guy with the DETRIOT SUCKS...sportscenter is next sign!
go pacers
