Liberty is down 32-18 with 4:11 to go in the first half. But not surprised I guess.

It looks like we will lose this game pretty badly. The score is 56-33 in favor of Longwood.

Losing to Longwood is pretty weak I must say. Losing to Kentucky and Virginia is one thing but Longwood. Unacceptable if you ask me.

Liberty is down 32-18 with 4:11 to go in the first half. But not surprised I guess. What the heck are you talking about? You're not surprised that we're getting raked over the coals by a team in it's second year of D1? I completely forgot about the game and I saw the score on the ticker on ESPN. I was floored. I thought, surely that's a mistake. What the freak is going on with this team? I'm so freaking ticked and overreacting right now it's unbelievable. I can't find a bright side like, we're getting it out of our system or we're having a bad game or some jive like that. We could have those games against the good teams. It's so important for a team like ours, to beat teams we're supposed to beat. I'm gonna go settle down somewhere.

No doubt this is a step backwards for the Flames. It will be interesting to see how the team responds in the next few games. If defense is suppose to be the staple for this year then we have a long way to go after tonights debacle. To add insult to injury Larry Blair goes down in a collision with Damien Hubbard. Not too many positives to take away from this game.

I'm not sure why anyone is suprised ... when I was looking over the schedule I could only find 10-12 wins (I was generous with our home games) and I told a bunch of people we'd lose 1 of 2 to Longwood (our away game) ... "playing well" at UK was not so much us playing well, although Blair was sick, it had more to do w/ UK playing bad ... High Point kept it close at the half ... this team (LU) is not that good and I don't know why people think they are.

May turn my attention to the womens team at this point after this totally embarrasing loss. At least I can count on them for a competitive team. I just don't know what to say. I am so ticked off. Maybe I can kick my dog. Something like that.

Maybe I can kick my dog. Something like that. I wish I could do the same, but I'm a bitter bitter sexist. As for the Insider, we have a lot of new guys. I could see some chemistry problems for a while but how could you have thought they were gonna be bad? I didn't even know who half the guys were before I saw them play in the exhibitions. We have Blair who is Blair, a 6-5 point guard with skills in Hubbard, Monroe who has shown promise and is very tall, Porter who hustles to no end and plays good D, and some other bodies who look good from time to time. We're no world beaters but in terms of the Big South I thought we could compete. Maybe we still can, who knows. All I know is if we lose to LC somebody better call my wife and put me on a 48 hour suicide watch.

why is anyone surprised! if you stop larry blair, you stop the flames, or let him get his, but contain him and not let him get loose. until someone else steps up this will be the results. this is very embarrassing and unacceptable.

It’s official: We Suck!! Hopefully no one on here will try to spin this in a positive way because you just can’t … we just lost to a team that won 1 game last year … I bet Big D wouldn’t mind having Dees back!

Post Game Report with Coach Randy Dunton
Game that caught us with a lot of inexperience. Larry Blair will probably need stitches in the back of his head. You need some plays to demonstrate some confidence. I am very disappointed with our play (ball possession and allowing guards to penetrate). We are not playing with any level of maturity. We need to establish the habits of taking care of the basketball and rebounding. When they extended their defense we needed to get the ball inside to Russell and he needed to dominate. We have to establish ourselves with poise and ball possession. Evan Risher needs to step up for this team and it really needs to begin with his attitude. Russell Monroe, Eric Bigby and Jeremy Eck showed some signs. I am not surprised in that this is what happens when you have an inexperienced point guard and forwards. Its like having an inexperienced pitcher and catcher. We will need to really battle in the next two games.

You wouldn't expect Coach D to have much positive to say after a disastrous night like this one. This will certainly lower expectations. But with this many new faces on the floor at the same time there are going to be some bad nights.

Wow- Hopefully we will not need to overtime to beat LC on Friday night like we did against Shenandoah last year. I would much rather us get by 30 to Kentucky than Longwood a team in its 2nd year at DI. However, this is what LU wanted. Let's get rid of a Coach who brought LU from high school level to having 20 win seasons. We he didn't win the BSC so lets get rid of him and go 12-18 every year.

That's harsh. I dont buy the conspiracy theory. When you are a one man team, and your man gets hurt - what do you expect. I guess this is what D-IA Mid-Major is all about. You always have a bunch of turn over with two year players or transfers and never get the chance to gel as a team year in or year out because you have no nucleus. Coach D has done an admirable job, and untill LU can get a stream of strong recruits THAT STAY to build a nucleus you season with JUCO/transfers, you are going to have what you have tonight.

I was at the game tonight. Longwood's gym is the same size of an average High Schools. So I didn't think being on the road would hurt us. Though we beat ourselves tonight, the refs and lucky bouncy did have their fair share in handing us this loss. The defense NEEDS to be better, it seemed as if Longwood could score whenever. One thing I noticed is the lack of ball pressure. Liberty gets pressured throughout the game it seems like. It took us til 15 minutes into the 2nd half to realize we needed to pressure. I think Dunton needs to put some presses into the system, when they did press and put some pressure they were succesful. We missed about 4 layups tonight and didn't finish well at all around the basket. Jeremy Eck looked horrible tonight, and Longwood fans chanted his name and applauded when he came in. Again not too many positives, but when Justin Holland came in the second half the offense looked pretty good. Bigby also had a couple of nice moves down in the post. Other than that, all I can say is I hope we have that game out of our system.

Maybe frustration got the best of me but after football....... The comment about getting rid of Coach Meyer, all I ever heard was that someone wanted him out and stabbed him in the back. A one man team yes but at what point do we not have such a high turnover on players. I think we all would like to know why Dees left. I think Dunton will have the team ready in March but last year we were getting beat by 30 and 40 points to mid majors teams. The year before William & Mary beat us by 30+. Anyway the good news is that LC is 0-4. They lost to Randy Mac by 21 tonight.

Guys, I was at the game tonight after spending the day Christmas shopping with my wife (don't laugh young guys, you will have to do it too someday!). Actually we had a lot of fun because she likes to go in the stores I like too. Anyway, on the way back we stopped in Farmville to watch the Flames get beat by a team that we should kill. I did think there were some positives to take away but we have a lot of work to do on the defensive end. LUstudent is right, they scored at will it seemed. The officiating seemed one sided at times but you can't control that and the ball bounced the right way for Longwood a lot tonight but all that aside, this team simply has to find its identity. I am not as pessimistic as some on this board I guess but I see this team being competitive in Big South play. I think they need to be mentally tougher and have a tougher resolve but I don't know if you can coach that. The players have to take ownership for that and in my opinion it starts in the backcourt and with Russell Monroe. He has to dominate those guys when the guards are out on the perimeter giving pressure. He was one on one in the post several times. He played well in spurts though. I think Risher showed he has the ability to score and if Rell could score like Bigby or Bigby could play D like Rell you would have a pretty nice power forward on your hands. This team will be fine I think (I really hope so too). No need to cash it in because of a bad performance tonight. Bottom line is we have a long season and with new players, it sometimes doesn't happen overnight....As far as Dees is concerned, of course this team would love to have him especially because he can score but to paraphase coach Rick Pitino when he was in Boston, Dees "is not walking though that door..." Liberty basketball goes on. Can't wait to see how we respond on Friday night.....BTW JimFlamesfan were you at the game tonight? I have never met you so I am not sure. Also LUStudent did you sit near me during the game ? Some of your thoughts on this thread sounded familiar.

Great reset of Pitino giving the chowd media the business using Larry Legend.
Yeah, we should've won this game bigtime. But they simply played poor. Its going tohappen with this team until they work out some rough spots.

After reading the many glowing reports on this board about the talent & skills of our players (and coaches) for the past several weeks i was surely surprised with this loss to LONGWOOD. . Post after post, even from Coach D himself, actually persuaded me to hope and think that this would be a winning season. Of course we only count the Big South Conference games for the record (8-8/15-1), so we will probably be able to keep the streak alive this year.
