I don't see it. They had 3 good wins - GT, OSU and Washington. They lost to Illinois which is understandable. They lost to Mizzou, St. Mary's and San Francisco - 3 real powers. There OOC wins were Idaho, Portland State, Montana. The WCC is just a joke conference.

Is Gonzaga the best team in the country? no. But I don't see how you can't put them in the upper tier. Yeah, they lost to Missouri and San Francisco (two NIT teams)...but UNC lost to Santa Clara (a team that Gonzaga swept this year), Duke lost to Virginia Tech and Maryland (two NIT teams), Wake lost to Florida State, Kentucky lost to South Carolina, Oklahoma State lost to Nebraska (and Gonzaga), UConn lost to UMass, etc. I can go on and on...every team, no matter how good, has a loss or two on their resume that doesn't look great, so I'm not sure why you are giving Gonzaga so much grief, especially since they did beat teams like Oklahoma State and Washington earlier this year...

The reason I'm giving Gonzaga grief is that your Winthrop counterpart Realist is taking the approach that since Winthrop came within 10 points of Gonzaga that you guys can play with anyone. My point was I was proud of WU's effort but coming within 10 to Gonzaga doesn't qualify one to be competitve with anyone.
I think the Zags are a good team - but I don't think playing them close put WU in the top tier of the Mid Majors as Realist suggests.
Actually I was disappointed WU lost - I thought they would beat Gonzaga.

Your opinion, but the nation's opinion is that Winthrop is a high mid-major. Their last ranking in the mid-major poll is top ten and I don't see that dropping significantly after taking Zaga to the wire.

Here's another opinion for you. I don't buy the whole Mid Majors argument. Ranking mid majors is ridiculous. We are all Division I right? Your argument was not that Winthrop is a high mid major - your argument was that playing the Zags close put you on the map and now the nation knows Winthrop can play wth anybody. My argument is that's not true.
Fow what it's worth - no one in the northeast where I am have been trumpeting Winthrops cause. Are you sure you haven't been sitting around all day listening to WU student radio? :>)
Where is this mid major poll - that is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. The only poll that matters is the Top 25. That's the real measuring stick.

WU has votes in the top 25 as well. And it's just getting better next year.

Can't argue that. Like I said most of us were pulling for WU - me included. You guys will be a handful next year no doubt. My only point was don't use Gonzaga as a measuring stick. I thought you guys had a chance to win before the game - not because you are a power - but rather I think Gonzaga is just another team and not much better than Winthrop.

Case closed - the verdict was handed down by the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Good year for the Zags - a good team in a bad league.
Now come on Vermont and Bucknell - love the upsets!

My sentiments exactly. The Zags always performed better as low seeds than they have since getting their props from the committee.
