Well, I was dissappointed to the loss to Winthrop. But LU still holds its own destiny regarding a second seed.
LU's gotten somewhat back on track with the win over Charleston Southern...and Coastal, Radford, and VMI appeare to be winnable games.
Go Flames.

yep.
No one has any comment on the CSU game? I guess it was a fairly routine game?

The CSU game was fairly routine. I thought Evan Risher was very solid at point. He started in place of Woodson due to Brian being late to shoot around. Blair was really active and posted a double double. Dees shot 15 free throws. In fact the team set a Vines Center record last night with 50 free throws as a team. The previous record was 44. The team record is 52 set back in the 79-80 season. We only shot 28 for 50 from the line but CSU turned it over 22 times. They still tied the game late but Blair hit a big shot to put it out of reach. They are going to need to play better as a group to win tomorrow and to beat Radford on Saturday. Last nights crowd was kind of subdued too I thought. Thursday's VMI game has me a little worried because they have not won a game in conference yet and they always play well against Liberty.

Well,
Things are lookin up. Liberty gets another over Coastal, comming from behind again.
VMI beat Radford, which I think is a good thing, hopefully they'll have a letdown on Thurday and we can keep the second seed. Would be nice to play the first two games at home.

I just had a random thought - Gregg Marshall over at Winthrop has certainly had his share of success. Do you think that the Big South will just accept that and give someone else the coach of the year award?
I mean, because that's what they do with our women's basketball coach, who has only won the award twice in six years.
Perhaps the BS will finally recognize Dunton this year?
Naaaaaaaaaaaah. Bias against LU, and all.
I apologize for this post having no point, I just wanted to say something about that.

Yeah, but have the LU women been picked to finish 4th and then end up finishing first with a team that only has one senior (who barely plays)? I thought Dunton should have won it his first year at LU, but I can't see how Marshall doesn't get it this year.

I think Marshall will win it this year but the Big South has a history of giving it to the coach who does much better than anyone expected them to do. Jim Platt has won it with barely a winning record in the year he won it. I still think Marshall will get it and quite honestly he really deserves it. How about BSC maybe playing Winthrop in the first round. Every publication and coaches poll and SID poll had BSC in first place. How ironic that they will be the lowest seed in the tournament. Winthrop is going to destroy them in the first round. It will be interesting to see who Liberty draws. It could be Radford or Charleston Southern for the second straight year. Interesting fact. When Charleston So and Liberty play in the post season, one of the 2 teams wins it all! Weird stat but that is what I do, I find stuff like that and share it with the public ;D

I think RU will get that #8 seed...Their short-handed lineup is catching up to them now and they have to play WU, LU, HPU, and UNCA down the stretch...and they would also lose a tiebreaker to Birmingham-Southern if it came to that since the Panthers swept that series...

Still trying to figure out how Radford beat us when VMI stomped them by 13 tonite. Incidently, VMI got another "big" win vs LONGWOOD last week- they're on a roll now, having won 2 of the last 4!

We had a nice win last night but we need to play more consistently!!! We have the power to go up and stay up but we just seem to be too streaky! It really annoys me and my wall can't take much more (as it is the victim of my frustration) If we would have played consistently we could have beat Winthrop (not that we would have but it would have been a hecva lot closer). Oh well. 2 weeks and then the Madness starts...

If we were consistant we'd be in first place right now, but that's an attribute LU has never been able to call its own. We also seem to have a little trouble with big men, which may end up killing us down the road.
It was nice to see last night that the team was really looking to Glynn Turner to score. I know he only had 11 points, but they were really trying to get him involved in the offense. The post players were finally clicking last night.
Oh, and half of Radford's team is gone due to suspensions, so they may not be much of a factor for the rest of the season.

Am I the only one here a little frustrated that we are having to rally on our own floor this close to tourey time to eke out a victory over Coastal?
At the same time, we really are in the driver's seat for that 2 seed. Let's just hope nothing darts out into the road causing us to crash.
(Enough with the negativity)
As for Big South awards, tyhe primary thing stopping Marshall from winning Coach of Year is jealousy around the league. Here's hoping some other school offers him a great opportunity to succees somewhere else. ;D

Looking at my trusty Big South Record book in the last 10 years there have been several coaches that have finished in the middle of the pack but won the award. Pete Strickland from Coastal won it in 2000 with a 7-7 record. Jim Platt from Char So was 6-8 in 2001 and won it. (Marshall was 11-3 both seasons) In 2003 Biedenbach won it and both he and Marshall were both 10-4. I think if they go 15-1 he should definitely get it. He deserves it. How about all league teams. I am going to start a new thread with my picks.

Am I the only one here a little frustrated that we are having to rally on our own floor this close to tourey time to eke out a victory over Coastal? I'm not taking anything away from Coastal. They were supposed to be garbage and have really been hot lately. The only team to beat Winthrop as a matter of fact. But it seems like our boys have peaked a little early. Woodson is turning it over like crazy. I can't tell you how many times he does something dumb and it luckily turns out good. But it also results in TO's. Robinson has been a little out of it lately. He really didn't produce much in the first place but he sulks when he's not doing well. As for Blair, I think he's too unselfish. Sometimes he needs to just take over. He'll pass up an easy shot or a lane only to pass it back to woodson or dees. Let's hope Winthrop has to go through Coastal and UNCA in the tourney. One of them would take them in my opinion.

Oh, and half of Radford's team is gone due to suspensions, so they may not be much of a factor for the rest of the season. ok, forgot about that- wondered why they have fallen down lately- and Sly, I agree- we're winning, but by pretty darn close margins over teams we SHOULD be blowing out in the BIG SOUTH. Playing at this level, the "big dance" would be a disaster.

Coastal would have no shot at beating WU. Yes, they won the first contest, but in the second, WU just pounded it inside play after play and took advantage of height advantage. It would just be a replay. UNCA would have a better shot, as they are playing the best ball behind WU right now.
