Guys, you heard it here first. Tyrone Cronnell a 6-6 250 lb stud out of Orlando has verbally committed to Liberty. He is one of the top 300 players in the country! Word is that Winthrop was heavily recruiting this guy. He has been compared to Jerome Kersey. I talked to a couple of the players last night and they love this guy. That was before he committed I think. Our administrator Sly will probably give us a pictoral and stats later as he did with Ricky Jackson (not to put any pressure on you Sly). People still can't believe he is coming to Liberty either. I'm too disappointed in the football flames to post on their section today. I was on the sidelines to witness it and it was not pretty. I really hope it gets better soon.

Thanks for the heads up, Scar. But I believe this is the kid's name:
Tyrone Cornell 6' 6" Wing Winter Garden, FL
* Plays for West Orange High School Warriors - Florida 6A * Plays Summer Ball for Nike Team Florida
I have to tell you that I haven't seen Tyrone ranked Top-300 nationally anywhere but its possible.

What other colleges recruited this kid besides Winthrop?

To be honest, I haven't found an abundance of info. He played on the top AAU team in Orlando that travelled quite a bit this past summer. So I'm sure that helped raise his stock.

Tyrone Curnell is rated #322 nationally with Hoop Scoop the #323 has committed to Mississippi. At 6'6" 225lbs and the ability to play either forward spot makes him a real good get. The players think this is a major impact recruit. Maybe sometime the politics will cease and Dunton will be recognized for the ability to move this program to new levels for the second time in is Liberty coaching days. He is tough and demanding so some personalities and egos aren't gonna like it. His teams are typically exceptional on the defensive end and I think that was a big reason why Coach and Dees had trouble. David consistently had lapses and caused defensive breakdowns. Larry Blair also must be more efficient on that side of the floor. I am ready to see where this team can finish and without a senior believe the best is yet to come.

Sounds like a big dude. Not bad on rankings either. WU just picked up a ranked 167 player, shooting guard that Stanford was after. Looks like a coup.

I think it is appropriate to distinguish between fact from fiction and so I have decided to name myself as Overseer. Obviously I will remain nameless but let the accuracy of my statements overtime verify fact from fiction. That being said I met Tyrone this past week and saw him play and assure you he is the real deal. He can play and if it works out for him to attend Liberty he has the potential to be an all conference player before his days are done-FACT. The chemistry on this team right now is great and several players say it's the best it has been. Coach Dunton has this team going in the right direction. Coach and the team certainly would welcome our prayers for wisdom, discipline and humility so that the unity of the team become invicible.

Thanks for the inisight, overseer. And thanks for breaking down and registering.
So did he work out with the guys while he was there? Usually official visits are more Chamber of Commerce-type deals.

Thank you for the welcome. Tyrone did run with the guys and was very impressive. When it comes to recruiting at Liberty all the other schools hammer on the Liberty Way (distorted of course) to persuade guys from looking at Liberty. The key is getting guys on campus and let them see for themselves what Liberty is about. Please understand the complicated variables in place when a kid verbally commits to a school. It is a lot like us guy’s committing to a girl when we were in high school. Sometimes we meant what we said sometimes we didn’t.

OK Medic, only Goat get and Sly get to make the head jokes. Goat gets the physical jokes in and Sly gets the metaphores. I expect more out of a fellow Pennsylvanian :-). Chris, I like to stay informed as far as Hoops is concerned. This is my place in cyberspace to share that info with the world. Last year I thought about writing a pre-season preview. I know I can give you better info than is written in Athalon and these other publications about college hoops give us about the Big South...In fact Chris, I know you will write some good stuff and so will A-Train in your respective circulations. I will have to use this forum for my writing ability (if I have any) and post a Hoops preview when the season gets closer.

Tell me this, Scar ... were Ricky and Tyrone the only recruits in this past weekend on official visits? As for your writing ability, don't let that stand in the way of doing a preview. I especially enjoy using "metaphores" ... are those molds that change forms?

Ah, clever Sly. Yes there were 2 other highly recruited players whose names slip my mind right now. Ricky was actually here 2 weekends ago for the Concord game.

Sly, I think you can rest assured that the readership here is on the upswing, and that your man Biko Davis has already been noticed from your post - even players are checking this site out. A little more more gushing effusion about Tyrone Curnell: he can play the # 3, take it the length of the court, go behind his back, and dunk any which way you can imagine - and has a dream body to match. Stud.
Nothing we haven't already heard - but still - reaffirmation of the facts presented. Everybody who has seen him says this is the real deal.

All I know is that I had dinner with Coach Dunton and Coach Sherard last week in Dallas and they are recruiting a 3/4 out of South Oak Cliff (perennial power house in Texas) that could be the biggest difference maker in LU History. Next to the GOAT that is!!!!!!! You all can say whatever about Coach Dunton but as far as recruiting goes he can recruit with the best of them.

GOAT - I know you can't be talking about Darrell "Slim Shady" Arthur. Can you? He fits the description except I would say he is solid 4. Everyone in the nation wants the kid and he's been coy with everyone in the process. If we got him, it would be coup of epic proportions. But I know SOC is always stacked with awesome talent. Baylor took their top wing off their phenomenal squad last year. You certainly got my attention with your little nugget, GOAT. Scar -- Do you at least remember what part of the country the other two kids were from?

As an "old man" the kids are all grown except for the 16 year old, who arrived late as a little surprise. They've all been fun, and the 16 year old is a great kid. When the original four were all teens at one time, it was tough on the budget. The oldest is a deacon in our church - I don't know how he got that job. I haven't been the wisest with the retirement planning - starting a church, pastoring, so now I'm going to find out how soon the kids drop me off at the nursing home - I'm pleading for a guest house in the back yard of whoever makes the most money. What's this thread? Oh yes, "verbals" - Dunton's doing a great job, but then, all of a sudden, that seems to be the consensus. I always scoffed at "pen pals" (50's term for the uninitiated) but now (sob, sob) I can't live without you guys.... persons, .... perceived genders, whatever you are. Go Flames, Go Dunton, Go Players, Come recruits! Yea, Liberty!!

Sly Fox, it is not Darrel Arthur, Coach D would have to break NCAA violatons to get him at this point.

I didn't really believe we would land Slim Shady. But with the new entrance guidelines for the NBA, a lot of players like Arthur are going to be dropping by colleges for a year or two now until they gain eligibility for the draft. But if he plays for SOC, then he must have skills ... ditto anyone playing for Lincoln. Of course, we all know H-town hoops is a step above the Metroplex. Its a known fact. Just ask formerplayer.
