Just an FYI: I spoke with Curnell's high school coach this morning and Tyrone has NOT given LU a verbal yet.
He was very high on Liberty, but after he got home, his mother talked him out of giving the verbal without making some more visits. He has a visit scheduled to Appalachian State later on and is being pursued by five mid-majors, Liberty included, but no major-conference schools.

Thanks for the clarification, Chris. Obviously we'll be watching him very closely now nonetheless.

He probably did get talked out of the verbal until he has weighed his options but I am pretty sure that my source was reliable and that a verbal was tendured at some point over the weekend. This happens a lot when a 17 year old kid comes home and says, "Im going to Liberty" the people around him who don't really know about Liberty and they think the kid has made a hasty decision. I feel like there is still a strong poss Curnell will end up in Lynchburg. Thanks Chris for checking up on this. We'll trust your source for now since it is pretty much 1st hand info.

I get the feeling he will end up at LU as well, but an announcement won't come until closer to Nov. 9. His mom just wants him to weigh all of his options.

We usually do very well with the mothers. Once we win over the kids its usually all downhill from there.

I have a hard time believing that one about more players coming out of H-town than the Big D. In the last 15 years the D/FW area has produced more state champions than the Houston area.

Let's see, there is the heliocentric position, the geocentric position, and the Texocentric position. What about all the super basketball players that come out of the State of Maine. When Dunton was in high school, he would have dunked over GOAT with his eyes closed.

You know better than to talk about state championships being a level of talent. San Antonio has won a couple 5A titles the past few years. But we all know the Alamo City is FAR behind H-town & DFW in talent. BTW, we've won the last two 5A crowns down here. Just having a little fun represented the city that gets no respect down in SE Texas.

by the way, its a known fact that Mexicans prefer tumbleweeds from DFW over those from Houston.

For the record, anyone who closely follows the LU basketball program knows the heavy influence the two areas have had and continue to have on our program.
As for the comment on Mexicanos, I have no idea where you are going with that but I'll let it slide based on ignorance.

Thank you for the welcome. Tyrone did run with the guys and was very impressive. When it comes to recruiting at Liberty all the other schools hammer on the Liberty Way (distorted of course) to persuade guys from looking at Liberty. The key is getting guys on campus and let them see for themselves what Liberty is about. Please understand the complicated variables in place when a kid verbally commits to a school. It is a lot like us guy’s committing to a girl when we were in high school. Sometimes we meant what we said sometimes we didn’t. OVER: heard good things about you this weekend. Looking forward to your contributions on here.

Verbal. Armon Jones: 6'8", 250 pounds, 17 years old, size 19 shoe. Like an Oliver Miller, playing out of Charis Prep in Atlanta, lefty, they say he really understands the game, tremendous kid, expectations again for him are very high.

Thanks for the heads up, grm. Charis Prep is actually in Goldsboro, NC. They send tons of guys to Division I programs every season.
I haven't been able to locate any info on Jones yet. But I'll keep trying.

Sorry for the mis-info on Charis Prep, Sly. I am not "in" on some of the people and places, and I probably misunderstood what I was told on that point. Maybe "my man" said he was out of Atlanta, and from Charis, and I (the simple-minded-one) joined the two. I think I read that we were supposed to "rightly divide the word of truth." Anyway, we have a verbal, and those that know says he's a good one.

Since its a prep school, the kid in all likelihood is from Atlanta. They recruit kids from across the nation.
I'm guessing he probably played for an ATL high school this past season. That's what has made it tough for me to locate info on the kid.

Thanks for the heads up, WEF.
I still haven't been able to find out anything about him. But perhaps some of our Carolina folks can catch him in action this season and bring us a report.

With no word on Curnell or Morgan right now, those are our only known verbal commitments. But I have a feeling Coach Dunton is working plenty of other angles right now as well. The fall signing period is rapisly closing in.

Where did you read it? I hadn't seen that out there. (Although I wouldn't rule any out when involving teenagers changing their minds)

Great find, WEF. Here's a pic of Armon Jones: A couple of interesting tidbits: Here is the pic of Sellers: I assume Telep has his facts straight. I guess he could have Sellers & Jones confused with the Liberty connections. But then again ...

read where Ricky Jackson Decomitted ---any word on why he will NOT be a Flame SLY posted the story on this over in the Ricky Jackson thread. No reason given other than an issue w/ the offer itself (basically insinuating LU wasn't being forthright about SOMETHING- ohhhhhkkkkaaayyyy)

There's probably been enough on this, but coach "stepped up" (as Shane Rinner might say) and did what needed to be done. Hopefully it was in the best interests for Ricky as well as for LU, but it was a decision that had to be made. No ulterior motive, no mean-spirited actions, no animosity - not too much behind this one, other than to say that the right thing was done. Why attack anyone on this? Sure, it has to be distressing to those who want to see a talented and gifted player perform at the Vines. It just couldn't happen. Best to Ricky, who I'm sure is a fine young man.
