Winthrop is losing to D2 Newberry at the half 35-34. This could be interesting.

What is it with Newberry and Big South top schools? Just ask CCU about Newberry on the football field.
For the record, I'll bet the Eagles breeze int he 2nd half.

WU wins by 2...not pretty..way too many turnovers and missed FTs. Hopefully that's out of their system and they can beat Alabama on Saturday.

Everybody has bad nights. At least you didn't take the 'L' in the process. Although it wouldn't have hurt your RPI, it wouldn't have helped your seeding come March.

That'll be the last time Golden is asked back to Rock Hill. Someone give that guy a D1 job.

Shaun Golden is their coach? No wonder they played Winthrop so tough.

Winthrop played poorly and were definitely outhustled, but yeah, Golden knew what winthrop was doing before Winthrop did. For everyone else, Golden was Marshall's top assistant coach for many years.

I was reading an article, I think on WU's board, about that guy and his game plan for WU v. Newberry- he sounded confident and now I see why.

You think Golden will get the Winthrop job when Marshall leaves for a bigger D1 job? It's inevitable that Marshall will leave sometime soon, even the ESPN guys are saying it. Golden seems to be a good candidate.

Unless something really big opens up, I don't see Marshall leaving in the next few years...but who knows. But as for Golden, since the rumors started after Marshall's third and fourth seasons that he may leave, I've always wanted Golden to be the replacement. After seeing the job he's doing now as a head coach, I'm even more convinced. Hopefully WU's AD Tom Hickman has his number on speed-dial, just in case....

If Winthrop makes it into the tournament again this year and can win a game I don't think Marshall will be there. There's gonna be a job along the likes of Southern Illinois or something like that open up somewhere and his name will be the first up.

Look for Marshall to stay at Winthrop for a long time. Greg grew up in Rock Hill and has a lot of Family in the area. He is very much a Rock Hill type of guy. But I believe when that offer for a ACC or SEC program or even a program out west comes he will be going. I have always said that he would end up at South Carolina only because Columbia is an hour drive from Rock Hill but only time will tell. Look for some great things from Winthrop this year in Hoops.
