Eaker Added To Men’s Basketball Staff As Director Of Basketball Operations
July 5, 2005 · Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty University head men’s basketball coach Randy Dunton has announced the addition of Jason Eaker, a former member of the Big XII regular season champion Oklahoma coaching staff, as the Flames’ new Director of Basketball Operations.
"Jason Eaker is a young enthusiastic professional. His commitment to excellence, past experience and capacity for work will produce many quality outcomes from his Director of Basketball Operations position,” stated Dunton. “I am confident that Jason's opportunity to be on staff with Kelvin Sampson's Okalahoma 2005 Big 12 championship team will serve our program well."
While pursuing a master’s degree at Oklahoma in Human Relations, Eaker served as a graduate assistant during the 2004-05 season, helping the Sooners to a 25-8 overall record and a 12-4 conference mark, which earned Oklahoma the Big 12 Conference’s regular-season title. Eaker served as the men’s basketball liaison to the Tip-In Club, Oklahoma’s men’s basketball booster club, as he coordinated and planned pre and post season banquets and the Tip In Golf Tournament.
"I feel it is a great opportunity to work at a Christian institution with a Christian coaching staff,” commented Eaker. “I look forward to helping Liberty Basketball get back to the NCAA Tournament. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked for Bob Hoffman, coach at Texas Pan-American, and Coach Sampson at the University of Okalahoma. Without my involvement with them, I would not have been able to be where I am today."
Besides working with Oklahoma’s Tip-In Club, Eaker also aided the men’s basketball program’s academic coordinator in the areas of study hall and tutoring for men’s basketball student-athletes. Eaker will coordinate the academic support efforts for men’s basketball program in his new role at Liberty.
Prior to his stint at Oklahoma, Eaker served one year as the Video Coordinator at Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, where he coordinated film exchange, player breakdowns and scoring breakdowns, while assisting with team travel.
Eaker is a 2004 graduate of Texas-Pan American where he received his bachelor of arts in history. Prior to graduating from Texas-Pan American, Eaker was a two-year starter at Hardin Simmons University, a Baptist affiliated college in Abilene, Texas, where he was an American Southwest all-conference selection in 2002 and a two-time honoree on the ASC all-academic team. Eaker started his collegiate career at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., where he was a letterwinner in 2000.
Eaker, who is a native of Altus, Okla., graduated from Altus High School in 1999, where he is still the third-leading scorer in school history.
