Scar - good to see you come over to the "dark side" of Liberty posting. I am still contemplating Sky Angel since I jones (no pun intended from my other posts) for LU B-ball since I left ('99). It would be nice to hear someone call that game who you know is not a stuffy media type - at least you dont come off that way. LUconn - dont be too offended that he confused us - you are one of the "big time" posters on this board, and I didnt mean to mimic the name. We do have some Big East solidarity though.... What is up with all of you Philly guys! Dont you know that Westbrook was the game savior. If Atlanta can figure a way to shut down Westbrook - you may be looking at a fourth loss in a row......but hey, I am rooting for an all PA Superbowl! That should make for an interesting off-topic board

And to be honest- I blew out my knee in one of those kill-or be-killed intramural indoor soccer games (on that horrible rubber floor at LU gym) and never wrestled another period in my life. Way to go genius, huh?

If Atlanta can figure a way to shut down Westbrook - you may be looking at a fourth loss in a row RIIIIIGGHT, and if Donovan would just break BOTH legs, and Pinkston, Freddie and Greg Lewis all get the flu, and if Chad Lewis falls in a well, and if Trotter and the rest of the linebackers get lost in Jersey and miss the game, and we have to suit Temple's team, THEN Atlanta has a good chance! Seriously dude, this is a solid team. There's always another guy that'll step up. (and like most Philly fans- I'm usually pessamistic, but they are GOOD this year)

Forgive me for not joining in on the Philly lovefest. I'm not buying into the hype. Big deal, you can roll a Vikings team whose only ability over the past two months seemed to be enjoying a Seahawks crash & burn.
I don't think you are giving the Falcons enough cred. I see the NFC tile game (aka Consolation Bracket) as a tossup without TO.
PS -- Ahh, the TP after the first bucket. The LU craze that resulted inthe NCAA changing its entire rules. I loved the looks on the oposing teams faces as all our players ran for cover the instant the first shot scored. ;D And just try using a john the day after a game.

PAmedic, sorry to hear about your knee. It may surprise you to hear that the Schilling center (AKA the Multi-purpose center) is all wood now! They have put in 2 practice floors for the hoops teams and on the side that we used to play our games on they put in a "sport court" type floor for volleyball and indoor tennis...You guys should see the LaHaye building. A top notch student center with 5 or 6 new basketball floors. Its AWESOME BABEEEEEE! (Sorry about the Vitale reference).....As far as Skyangel is concerned, it doesn't seem worth the effort to get it. I don't even have it. I have been talking with other media outlets (on my own dime mind you) about picking up some of our broadcasts. College Sports TV wants to pick up some games and last season Comcast Sportsnet in the DC Mid-Atlantic region picked up our Radford game. What a game too....Now for the Iggles. We will win on Sunday at all costs. It is long overdue for us to play New England in the big game. They get there but we never show up. Although an all PA game would be fun LUPITT. Slyfox, not to be a total Philly boy but the TP after the first bucket was started at the Palestra during Big 5 basketball games. LU continued the tradition and certainly, without a doubt contributed to the rule change due to the extreme amount of debris that was sent out to the floor.....Fun!

Scar, I have seen several of the LU television broadcasts and just wanted to compliment you on the job you are doing. You are exactly right about Liberty needing to get the games on another outlet besides Skyangel. It takes a financial commitment but Liberty should work out it's own Comcast or Sports South deal, and not rely on the Big South. This should be in another post, but what are your thoughts on the emergence of Leo Lightbourne the last few games? Hopefully, he will keep it up and give Liberty the presense at the 4 they need.

PAmedic,
I went to Cedar Grove Academy in Philly. Now it is called International Christian school. My teammate Chip Langdon was the first division 1 hoopster. He went to Iona in New Rochelle New York. Famous alum? Jeff Ruland of the Washington Bullets and Sixers. I was the second. After us there was a long drought and then my friend Danny Curbison took over the team for a few years in the late 90's and he sent dozens to college on a full ride. Coach Dunton had a couple up at Binghamton when he was an assistant. Curb is not the coach anymore but they have had some good teams since he left.

V88,
thanks for watching and thank you for the kind words. I wish more people would watch. You are right. Liberty should work on its own contract with these other outlets. I know the interest is there. All Liberty needs to do is put the feed up on the sattelite and they would pull it down. It costs money but if we sold sponsorship and commercial time we could make a profit....As far as Leo is concerned, I am really glad he is breaking out. I have been telling him to be more assertive at the offensive end. I support him 100% as the 3rd scorer behind Dees and Blair. Leo is a great player but he was injured all last season and really didn't have the explosiveness in his legs that we are seeing now. He is assuming the mantle for Gabe Martin (who by the way is doing well in Portugal 21ppg, all-star). If he keeps playing this way, I think Liberty has an excellent chance at winning it all again. Keep on watching FTN!!!!

ok Scar, that puts it together for me. IF Chip is who I think he is, I played against him in my (mercifully) short (more ways than one) basketball career at Plumstead Christian. Probably ran into you...

Just have to add - Philly and Atlanta should be interesting. There are a ton of variables, but it comes down to the Eagles stopping the run. If they can do that, they should win handily. The Steelers and NE play the same game - it will come down to special teams and turnovers, for which I give the edge to the Pats. Pats vs. Falcons. If the Colts game showed us anything, its that some things never change - Philly loses thier 4th, and the Steelers continue their home woes. If anyone in Pittsburgh knew I posted this, I would be shot on sight. I hope both teams prove me wrong because I want to see Philly vs. Pittsburgh and see Rendell make a bet with himself - even though it will be obvious that Harrisburg will be Green and Silver Sorry - I promise to go off topic in the future.

PAmedic,
I only remember one guy from Plumstead during those days and his initials were FH and he and I were up for MVP my senior year. I won but he always teases me that I have his trophy because he averaged more points. I think he averaged like 29 and I averaged 27. You be the judge though, we won the championship and Plumstead as you may recall was not very good for a few seasons. I still keep up with him. Very successful in the Suburbs of Philly right now. Wife, kids, the whole nine. Is that you?.....LUPitt, you are in trouble in the whole state of PA for that last post! Shame on you, even if you are speaking truth. Rendell betting himself is hilarious!

Nope, but I believe you are referring to my friend Frank H. (rhymes w/ another word for coat) who was a year ahead of me.Glad to hear he is doing well. And yes, we had a horrible team throughout the 80s despite the best efforts of my friend Coach Martindell (who I believe left for PCB)

Cool, then I am sure we played against each other. I played 3 years of varsity. Chip Langdon was a superstar but we had other players as well. Those were the days before the 3 point line or Frank H might have averaged even more....Come to think I would have too. We were cheated.

Scar - I live in N.J.... sorry. 'Round the turnpike exit 9. Actually, I live in Va. Beach right now, but whatever.
I did like the Visine reference. I'll have to steal that one. Seriously, I used to sit by my computer and just type up with witty remarks like that so I could use it on air when I did baseball games on the radio:
(homerun): "there are Russian cosmonauts who never got that kind of lift-off" (strikeout): "that guy looked more clueless up there than Drew Barrymore on celebrity Jeopardy" (getting dark out): "the sun is descending here on Worthington stadium and the shadows are creeping onto the field. Yep, it's getting shadier than Gary Condit here." (my favorite, when the umpires are debating the ruling on a call): "You know, baseball's rule book is just as long as the Communist Manifesto, and equally as confusing. Of course, if I had to choose one of them to establish a government, I'd choose the rulebook."
*sigh*

Good stuff Eddantes. I like the Gary Condit reference. I guess that is just the mind of a broadcaster because I sit around and think of stuff like that too. My wife thinks I am nuts when I say stuff while we are watching TV. I am not one of those annoying guys that always try to make a pun out of everything though. I mostly say silly stuff that you could never get away with on the air and we both laugh because we are both silly. I did make a reference to Lewinsky a few years back when I lived in DC and I thought I would get in trouble. I basically said that the Redskins finally ended a game taking a knee after a long losing streak and the team I was covering in high school was doing the same on the Friday after the Redskins win so I said there hasn't been this much excitement around here about taking a knee since Monica. The crew liked it and not but flack afterwards so it was worth it.

Man, you're off for MLK day and next thing you know you've got a half hour of reading to catch up. Liberty should work on its own contract with these other outlets. I know the interest is there. All Liberty needs to do is put the feed up on the sattelite and they would pull it down. It costs money but if we sold sponsorship and commercial time we could make a profit. Is there really? That's pretty exciting but I really don't understand why. Unless they just had some time slots to fill. LU plays almost 100% of it's games at the 7:00pm timeslot when I'm sure there are far more interesting games on most outlets that would take us. I guess if we did have a media deal, we would schedule around that. Anyway, if the school ever wants this to be a serious program in the eyes of the country, they should do this immediately. However, with our Skyangel deal, we are better off than everyother Big South school and I'm sure that's good enough for them. As far as Leo is concerned, I am really glad he is breaking out. I have been telling him to be more assertive at the offensive end. I support him 100% as the 3rd scorer behind Dees and Blair. Leo is a great player but he was injured all last season and really didn't have the explosiveness in his legs that we are seeing now. I call Lightbourne the human pogostick. If there's a fight for a rebound with lots of tipping going on, he'll get it. He can jump just as high as anybody else but he can do it twice before they hit the ground off their first leap. I was really excited to see him start to score more. I thought Rell was supposed to be "the next Gabe" but I can see Leo is starting to fill the shoes nicely. These last 2 games were definatly a couple of the most important of the season so far.
