The LU Flames of 2005-2006 will look very different from the Flames of this past season, starting with David Dees who is looking at leaving . Rumor has it he's looking at possibly going to Arkansas State. Either way he's leaving LU. Haven't heard anything about Blair looks like he will stay put though. I will let someone else tell you guys about the coaching changes (assistants) that are coming.

I'll believe it when I see it, but if true our season is over before it started. We need everyone we can get to beat Winthrop in the tournament next year. I don't see that move making any sense for Dees though. He'll sit out a year just to play under Nutt in the Atlantic Sun? Unless he just can't stand playing at LU, that's a real dumb move.

For the record, Arkansas State plays in the SunBelt. Anyway, I haven't heard anything about Dees leaving, but I have heard rumors that Porter and Risher are looking at going elsewhere.

Yeah, I knew it had something to do with a Sun. As for the other 2 leaving, Risher is gonna be good and I'd hate to lose him. I thought Porter was gonna be the next Gabe Martin but he didn't play well at all. But then again they were both only freshman so it's hard to tell. Are we gonna have anyone on the team next year?

Maybe we can try to get Glyn Turner another year of eligibility. I agree that in basketball terms, Dees would be an idiot to leave. But I guess not everything's about basketball, is it.

I assumed if Dees left it would be for a school closer to home. There are a ton of options in SW Ohio. But Arkie State? Bizarre. That place is awful.
Let's hope he gives all the options including staying a serious second look.
I'm curious about the staff changes as well. I guess Scar must be getting his resume together based on his lightning quick response to formerplayer's post (4 minutes ... wow!).

It's official...The Insider has learned that due to concern there will be no players left in the program Liberty has discovered another year of eligibility for Brian Woodson and Glynn Turner. Woodsen, at the age of 35, is looking forward to playing his 15th season of college basketball. "I will continue to prepare the way I always have. Sit on the bench during the pre-game, eat candy bars, drink cokes, and not participate in pre-game warmups." A somber Turner was not as excited to return for another season. "I'm 30 years old. I just want to get out of college. Why can't they just let me go?" Remember, you can always trust the Insider for accurate information.

Insider,
one of your funnier posts yet. Sly, no way am I considering coaching. It is no secret that I have been pursuing a position in the athletic department as a media relations director and have had talks with Dr Falwell and Dr. Godwin but nothing has ever come of it. Coach Dunton and I spoke yesterday and he is excited about moving forward in spite of all that is taking place. I also sent Dees an email letting him know that I support his decision to do what is best for him but that I think it would be best to stay. I think he can go down in history as one of the top players to ever play in the conference and as a senior in my opinion would get some scouts from the NBA into the Vines Center....I am going to miss Stephon. He was my teammate and roommate back in the day and he has always been a good friend. Above all of that he is a great coach with a huge upside and in my mind he will be a bigger loss than any one player that might transfer. It is much easier to replace players than it is to replace good coaches that understand what Liberty is all about. Steph played and coached here in the past and he comes from a similar background in Houston that me and many other inner city hoopers come from which helps him relate to players. I didn't know that Davis was resigning but I did know that he wants to be a head coach. I will stick to television where there is no pressure. Ok where there is less pressure.

OK...so is all this now beyond the rumor stage? Are Dees, Robinson, etc. definitely transferring? If true, losing Dees is a big loss for you guys...the times I saw him play against Winthrop, he just lit the Eagles up...

The Face Lift Includes..... Dees, John Clarke, Seth thingyey, Rashad Robinson - All Have recieved their release to trasfer to another school. Dees: Well that sucks Clarke: Who cares D1ckey: 12min/season, maybe Robinson: 3 for 243 with layups Although I have to wonder what's going on with all of the defections only 1 is of consequence. I'm gonna look for the Butternut big man, Monroe to step it up on the inside/outside game. He is LU's Pittsnoggle with his sweet sweet butternut jumper.

Bob Davis reportedly interviewed last week for the head coaching position at Fresno Pacific, an NAIA school. My sister lives out there and it was in the local newspaper(Fresno Bee-I think). You can Google Bob Davis Fresno Pacific and find a few articles about the story. Apparently Davis said he wants to be a head coach again.

Well obviously the news is out about Dees transferring and it is disappointing, but I do think that it will be good for him in the end. No one would ever want to lose a player like Dees but if someone is unhappy here the best thing to do is not continue to be unhappy. I would like to clear one thing up about Coach Davis and Fresno Pacific, he did not interview there because he has been in the hospital in St. Louis since the Final Four, he had his gallbladder removed, continue to keep him in your prayers. The assistant coaches say that he hopes to come home this weekend. Even though he didn't interview there, I can not say that he isn't looking intently to get a job somewhere else because he is a coach that loves being a head coach too much and I would support him in doing what he feels like he should do. On the subject of why Dees may be transferring to Arkansas State, why not go there, it is a great mid-major program that competes every year deep into the conference tournament. Plus when I have talked to him he has told me he would like to go somewhere that his brother is being recruited to, and this is one place in which that is the case. On whether or not losing Seth or John Clarke is a big deal, no in the playing sense because they really never got a chance to play, but I think people don't realize that those who don't play still go against the team every day in practice and it only makes them better. They are not on a D1 team for no reason and if anyone thinks they are better, then why aren't you on the team. I get sick and tired of hearing people say they can play on the team and that this player sucks, prove that you can play and get yourself a jersey. Rashad Robinson is a player that I think did not get a good chance to showcase what he can do. When I have talked to the assistants about him, they say that he can be a great player, but they don't think he was given that great of an opportunity this year, yeah he is going to miss some shots, but you can't deny the fact that ahe didnt't rebound. I hope he stays and gets a legitimate shot next year, but if not I hope he catches on somewhere and gets his chance to shine. Anyways, I hope that this information is of some good use and that Liberty Basketball only gets better.

Woah woah, lets take it down a notch. Nobody is saying they're better players. Except for Scar maybe. And that greatest of all time guy. We're fans and critics. I doubt movie critics think they could make a better movie. But the fact is those players didn't contribute anything come game time and they can easily be replaced. Much like nobody noticed Monceaux was gone. And he was better than any of those guys.
And as for "On the subject of why Dees may be transferring to Arkansas State, why not go there, it is a great mid-major program that competes every year deep into the conference tournament. " I say: HA! Get real. They're in a conference that is NOT a step up from the Big South and the team gets NO support from the community. And also it's in Arkansas. He can do what he wants but he's got to sit out a year to make a lateral move, when he's good enough to play at a true decent Mid-major.

LUConn, I think our guest was talking about people around campus saying they are better than the ones on the team especially the ones that don't play that much. I am sure our guest is a person close to the program that gets sick of hearing that much like I did when I was playing and coaching. There was always some guy talking trash in the cage or at the park just because they know you play on the team. I don't think anyone on this board except GOAT would dream of saying they are better than those guys. But GOAT IS BETTER than those guys. (GOAT is Larry Jackson btw). You won't hear me say I'm better because I have 30 something knees that allow me to go play with those guys about once per spring . I agree with you LUConn that Arkansas State is not a great move. I think at Liberty Dees would be able to play at least 1 more time in the Tournament. Ark St. rarely makes it to the Big Dance. I really hope he changes his mind. He would be welcomed back to the program with open arms that is for sure.

Kind of off the subject. Buzz Peterson is the new head coach at Coastal Carolina. I think it's a pretty good hire for them and it brings a little attention to our conference.
I didn't mean to stir the pot that bad I just felt I needed to share some things with my new extended family.lol But seriously when I post things like that I've received it first hand or from a very reliable source, the same can be said about Scar because we are both close to the program. It's a shame that Leary will be leaving, he's headed back to Houston where he will have an opportunity to pick up where he left off.

Yes there are a few of us "insiders" on the board including FormerPlayer and HoldMYOwn. Coastal getting Buzz is huge! I didn't hear about that. VMI is still looking for a coach. I think they will get someone with some military background though. I think Don Devoe that used to coach Navy may be available but I don't know if he is even on their list. His name just popped in my head. I must confess I didn't know Davis was sick. I have not been around much the past few weeks.

Well the rumors all along seem to be true. Scar is exactly right when he says that losing Stephon is beyond losing any star player. He is huge to this program, lets hope it does not have any affect on the new guys coming in. Dees leaving for Ark. St. this weekend, they are strongly considering taking Dees and his younger brother....and a team that i guess is "weak" but drilled us by 30 last year. Robinson is a big loss, no matter what anyone says about last season. He is a true big man, who was not only given a chance, but was treated very poorly while being here, it is no suprise he is on his way out.
and for Coastal....aren't they getting a new gym to this year? along with ex-TN coach, they are also going through a face lift.

I hadn't heard about Stephon coming back down here to Houston. Formerplayer or Scar, please give me the lowdown on what he's going to be doing down here. I got thte impression from the last post that he may be going back to summer ball. That has EXPLODED down here the past 2 years. There is some serious money out there to be made if you get int he right circles (i.e. Vision Sports, etc.).
Losing Steph will have a major impact on the program. Even before he returned to Lu as an assistant coach, he was helping lead players to our school. Hopefully that can continue in whatever capacity he has now.
Like I mentioned before, Arkie State would be stunning move for David. But if playing with his little brother is his primary focus and that school can make it happen, it does make some sense. With all these transfers freeing up 'ships, couldn't we throw the younger Dees kid a bone just to keep David on campus? Remember there's no 8/5 rule anymore. But I'm guessing there's probably more involved than just brotherly love from him to make such a drastic move. God bless him whatever he does. But selfishly, I pray he stays.
