This is a huge huge game for us tomorrow night. Hopefully the students realize this. I'm not very confident that we pull this out. We can and we may, but I just see this as a toss up. We can't afford to lose any home games but this one would hurt us the most. Aside from Winthrop.

Just doing some simple projections based on the current Big South standings, you can see we really need to win out at home to be in position to win the regular season title,
Now is the time to make our stand against another contender.

Tuesday's game is big. They are all big as long as HPU and WU have one or two losses. No margin of error at home that is for sure. I talked with a few HP players when we were down there for the first game and right now they are living just to get revenge on Liberty. Our guys will have to match their intensity to win tomorrow. They want revenge badly from last season's BSC title game. Absolutely can't lose at home because the remaining 3 road games are all tough places for LU to play: Asheville, VMI (although they have not won a game yet in conference) and Birmingham So. I am still disappointed we didn't get Radford. just a decent shooting night from someone and we win that game.

Final prediction, 78-70 HPU. LU seems a little flat lately and HPU has so much extra motivation. Hopefully Larry remembers how he did what he did last year.

We're now back on track. The next couple of games will likely decide our fate.

That game was one of the most fun games I have had the priviledge of calling! The fact that High Point lead the whole game and played with more energy than any team I have seen in 2 years in the Vines made it a great game. I thought with 6 minutes left and HP was up 7 that they celebrated way too much. It was a victorious type of celebration not the kind where you are excited but you know its not over. They acted like it was over. They are a pretty good team though. Leonardo Davinci Lightbourne had 24 and 12! Woodson had 13 and 8 assists. BTW Lightbourne was sick on Saturday and nearly didn't play in the game. I ate with him and a couple of the other players today and he seemed like he was feeling much better. He played with a lot of energy. Dees and Blair played well too. Tough game to play I am sure but they hung in there and now they have won 15 in a row in the Vines in conference. In terms of intensity and physicality, that game tonight was like an ACC game. Bodies flying everywhere. It is going to be tough to win the Big South even if we get home court advantage. Winthrop is really good and so is High Point. But that is for a later post when we get closer to the tournament and the seedings start to take shape.

a little off topic but, Scar, do you know the Graphics guys for FTN? They do a really good job, especially with the score/time graphic but whenever they show the logo's for the teams, they're always square. And since Liberty's logo is naturally rectangular they squeeze it in the square and it's all misproportioned. It looks goofy. I noticed Jefferson Pilot did that when we played Maryland too. But I would think you guys would set up the graphics in the first place to accomidate our team.

LUConn,
first of all thanks for watching. I must say again that last night was so much fun for me. As far as graphics are concerned I know exactly what you mean about the logo. I am not a graphics guy but I do know that sometimes you have to compress a graphic to get it to fit in a certain area on the screen. I seem to remember a conversation with the guys at Prototype about that last year. I think our graphics are top notch too. In fact the whole production is really great if I do say so myself. Most of our crew work for ESPN and Raycom Jefferson Pilot on games in the ACC as free lancers. The equipment is top notch, the cameramen are professional and all of that goes into making Ray Jones and me sound coherent. I can't wait to watch last nights game on tape. That was a real tournament atmosphere last night.

Sounded like a fun game...I listened to the HPU feed off and on and the crowd seemed to be in it and it seemed like neither team was holding anything back. Good stuff.
And Winthrop will be going through a similar stretch that you guys saw at the start of conference season next week with WU going to HPU on Tuesday and LU on Thursday...we'll learn alot about all three teams next week. Either way, I think those three squads really look a step ahead of everyone else...I'm not saying that one of the other teams can't or won't beat one of the top 3, but if anyone other than WU, HPU, or LU wins three straight in March in the conference tourney, I'll be very surprised.

WinthropEaglesfan,
I am glad to hear from you. I want to know what you think about the Big South re-scheduling the HPU game for Tuesday Feb 8th? Winthrop has to play Asheville Feb 7 and @ Liberty Feb 10th. That seems like it is a tough road for them next week. The snow may impact the Big South bigger than we anticipated. However if you guys can get out of next week with 2 or 3 wins, the race for 1st will be over! Can't wait to see the Eagles on the 10th. It is going to be like last nights game I am sure. I think your assesments about the Big South tourney are correct. You sound like a guy who has seen all the teams play and can judge fairly accurately how they will do. Of course tournaments can be tricky. Any one team can get hot for 3 games and win. I do think that it will be HPU, WU or LU too. Asheville and Radford are still dangerous and don't count out BSU. They will be a tough out in the tournament.

Yeah, that's definitely not the first date I would've picked for the rescheduled game, but obviously the two teams couldn't agree on a date that wouldn't at least give one team a back-to-back situation. Not much you can do about that, I'm just mad that it won't be on TV now...I was looking forward to seeing the game, but won't be able to.
I've seen every team either in person or on TV except for HPU, so I have a decent feel on most of the teams, though strange things do tend to happen toward the end of the year and in the tourney. And you are right about Birm.-Southern...that is the one team I'm sure nobody wants to see in the first round.
I've seen LU three times (@ WU, @ CSU, and on TV vs. VMI), and you guys have been improving the whole time, which is exactly what you need to be doing...The development of Lightbourne into a legitimate threat has really helped the Flames in moving to what i thought was going to be a middle of the pack team to a top 3 squad.

Hello everyone, seems like the board is really picking up. Well just wanted to say I give credit where credit is due. Woodson played a solid game last night, that one play when he almost turned it over, but got it back and fired a bullet to Leo was great. He was solid last night hope he continues to play at that level. Someone (guest) posted that Woodson is a high major player, I wouldn't go that far at all, he a solid big south pg, high major players can dribble with their off hand. I had to get just a little dig in Scar, Sly. David Dees (When his head is in the game), Larry Blair (when he isn't taking wild shots) are mid to high major players. That means they can go to a bigger program and contribute, not dominate. Back to last night's game, Leo is a player simple as that, someone said he can't do anything against quality post players in the big south keep watching. I'm not a Dunton guy but, he tends to play his biggest wing players on the block for the better of the team and it has worked, last year with Gabe, and this year with Leo. Kudos to Dunton, and the squad great win last night.

WinEagFan --- I am guessing there really weren't too many scheduling options open to both schools this late int he season. Sure, its going to make it a more challenging week. But I have a feeling you guys will fare well ... just not in Lynchburg. ;D FormPlay --- Count me among those blown away by Woodson's performance last night. Perhaps Bryan may have been tipped off about the discussion on this board. I was pleased to hear about Leo's condition from Scar afte his less than stellar trip to Radford (I don't mean I am glad he was sick ... just that it makes sense why he performed so poorly). But once again, he proved he is back to business after the night he had against High Point. On a related note, any other old hags here having troubles not referring to HP as High Point College? HPU doesn't roll off the tongue for me yet.

Former Player, For the record, I didn't say a word to Woodson other than he played terrible on Saturday and needed to play solid last night if they were going to win . He did admit that he was playing badly on Saturday and in fact he told me that for the first time in his life he didn't bug the coach to get back in the game. He felt that he was killing his own team. I think that is a sign of a maturing senior who realizes this is all over in a month. Former Player you and I both know how that feels. It can be a pretty sobering realization. As far as Woodson being major, I happen to think he would thrive at a major college because he would be throwing the ball to 3 Gabe Martins and Leo Lightbournes not to mention athletic post players (didn't have an LU player to name for that analogy). He committed verbally to Notre Dame out of high school before Matt Doherty took the UNC job and at his prep school and Juco he had offers from BC and other Big East schools. You know as well as I do that when you play with better players you play better as well.
