great. the pool is open 1 semester and they nearly blow the place up- maybe I need to come down and oversee firefighting as well as EMS.
Acid leak at LU pool results in no injuries
A hazardous materials team from the Lynchburg Fire Department responded around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to a chemical leak in the pump house at the Liberty University swimming pool.
The leak came from a 35-gallon drum of muriatic acid, out of which 8 to 10 gallons had spilled out and pooled.
“We were able to contain it with an absorbant,” said Capt. Mike Smith of the fire department, “and a cleanup company will come over tomorrow and finish the job. They use muriatic acid to adjust the PH in pools, and when it’s concentrated like that, it can cause some serious burns.”
The pool house and swimming area were evacuated, but no one was injured.
