Liberty lets quality recruits slip right out of town every year not only in basketball but in football too..I have seen quality athletes graduate from local schools and not even attend college or maybe enroll at CVCC and just sit on their behinds..do the coaching staff not care about its local products I think they do not there is little to no envolvement with the area youngsters by the Liberty University Coaches other than LCA..I wonder why that is anyone have any ideas about this snubb of the community??

I think we try to land recruits wherever we can find them. If top notch prospects are winding up at CVCC then EVERYONE is missing on them or they are having qualification issues.

i have watched local high school basketball in these parts, and it is horrible. I remember there was one kid who graduated from Heritage? i believe, and he was the "stud" of the local area....and he wasnt even that good. Maybe football is better, but who do u want locally for bball? Matt Dunton?

Its one thing to say we lose "big time recruits" to UVA or VA Tech, but not to CCAC. If they are going there, that is where they belong. Now, that isnt to say that we should be more involved in the community - that is a given. Hopefully the new AD will work within the community to bolster more civic pride toward LU. Coach Rocco and Dunton can add to that as well by having local kids in for sports camps. I have a hunch that will be addressed in the future.

Local football has taken an immence down turn since 1998 the teams in this area used to compete and meet with the top Hampton and other Va beach teams every year I think if the Colleges took more of a proactive approach it would help improve the quality of all athletics in Lynchburg because the great young athletes really feel like there are no opportunities for them

new coaching regimes coming in may well change that mentality, but it will take time.

Perhaps the local kids have not done well in the past at LU or, If I am a quality recruit, unless I'm a home body or have a passion for Christian service, then WHY would you want to go to LU? Tech and UVA have done quite well with Lynchburg area talent, so, the talent IS out there. The kid from Forest was an All-American center at Tech, a kid from EC Glass scored a couple touchdowns for Tech vs Fla State in the BCS game a few years ago, and Chris Cook from Heritage was getting meaningful snaps as a true freshman at UVA this year before breaking his ankle. Baseball is another story--you can't tell me with the quality of baseball in central Virginia that LU has any clue about recruiting other than up in PA. Until LU shows it can win (and with a coach who will get out in the community with a personality--and I'm referring more to football), the local talent will continue to go elsewhere.
