More bad news from men's basketball... Robinson Decides To Leave Men’s Basketball Program September 6, 2005 · Lynchburg, Va. Liberty University head men’s basketball coach Randy Dunton has announced that senior forward Rashad Robinson has left the program for personal reasons. "Unfortunately, Rashad seems to be very confused about the direction and priorities in his life at this time,” commented Dunton. “Rashad has chosen to not make the necessary commitment in order to continue with our program. We wish Rashad the best in his future decisions." Robinson (Sr., F, Elizabeth, N.J.) saw action in all 28 of the Flames’ contests last year after transferring to Liberty from San Jacinto Community College in Houston, Texas. Robinson started 10 games last year, averaging 4.4 points per game and ranked second on the team with 5.6 rebounds per contest, while shooting 40.7 percent from the floor (50-of-123). www.libertyflames.com/mbball/news.asp?news_id=2667

Well, that should help the Flames' free throw percentage this year.

But it also hurts our presence on the boards. Wow, even in September there's never a dull moment with this basketball team.

I see this as a good thing...Robinson could barely make a layup to save his life from what I saw.

This does not surprise me at all. Coach said so many times that he was always going through emotional things in his life. Wish him all the best, but A-Trian is right FT's percentage will be higher as well as FG percentage

This is definitely not a big loss from what I saw out of Robinson. I agree with Atrain about missing layups and bricking freethrows. It was bad enough to watch, but hopefully he will find some direction in life.

This is terrible for me to say...but it was almost funny some times, it's like the ball would deny physics and not go in for Rashad Robinson. I think this might actually help the program. Get to see more of our home school hero at center.

I think we might see Ricky Jackson make a verbal today. This could be very big. You never know what anyone will do at the next level, but he could be one of the biggest signings ever (next to GOAT). I guess the REV met Ricky, talked to his grandmother for a few minutes

(I hit a button that I don't even know about) anyway, I guess she is impressed with the good Rev. and with the program. Let's see what happens. Word is that Alexis is happy with everything so far - I'm glad, as he could play a big part. Understand the team meets at 5:45 (that's A.M.) for lifting & then running. They do individual skill development in the afternoon, and shooting in the evening. Must have individual study tables done by 3:00 p.m. They've also instituted a reading program that the players are helping with in the Lynchburg schools - LU listed as a "major partner" .... and the #2 man in Lynchburg School system (Al Coleman) even showed up at the BBall banquet. BBall trying to "build bridges" with the community... Also heard that there is a possibility of a very large (very large) endowment being funded for the men's BBall program... and word is that Steward said this is the best team chemistry of any team he's been on. One last thing - Ricky Jackson's "All Ohio Red" team's coach, Tony Lavender, said that if Liberty got Ricky, that it would be a "real steal." I hope that those things all work out for Liberty Basketball, and that they might be encouragements to "us guys."
God Bless

I got to meet Ricky at the football game while I was talking to my man Prototype. We both asked Ricky if he was from Texas because he had a Houston Astros jersey on. He is from Ohio and is about 6-6 and from what I understand he would be a good addition to the program. As far as 5:45 AM workouts, wow, I don't miss playing college ball anymore after flashing back to those days. Just give me the mic (sorry to steal that one). I asked Stewart the other day if they were running for distance or sprinting he replied "sprinting distance." Hilarious reply but it is true. This team is going to be in shape!

Actually I think you have it wrong. The reading program is for LU's players. They visit one of the elementary schools each week and the students teach the team how to read.
