Does anybody know if we've recieved any, or did those guys commit in the previous signing period? I assume we'll need some more with the massive defection as well.

They have had a couple of nice players on campus but I don't know if they signed either of them. The one kid they had last week is from Ghana, West Africa and is about 6-9 with a good build already. He is in Prep school in North Carolina. I got to meet him and shoot some baskets with him in LaHaye. Nice kid, would be a great fit for Liberty but he wants to be an Architect. I hope he signs. The other kid was a jr college player from South Carolina a couple of weeks ago but again I don't know if either kid has signed.

Dees is still visiting other schools right now, i know he made his visit to Arkie St. but nothing has come of it as of yet. He is also on the table with Butler, Creighton and Iowa St. possibly, no one is sure yet. This new recruit Anthony Smith is supposed to be another "Dees" but maybe slightly more athletic. Not to say that Dees would not be a big loss, but you have to look towards the future. Also they are close to signing a 6-6 Juco transfer who is long and very athletic also, although that is not official.

Leaving LU, then sitting out a yr, to play for BUTLER or CREIGHTON? who's giving him career advice- at least LU has a shot to see the tourney w/ a BSC tourney championship.
for the record, Butler was 7-9 (13-15overall), near the basement of the Horizon League (whatever that is)
Creighton at least was quite a bit better at 11-7 (23-10 overall) in the Miss Valley Conf.

Butler would be much closer to home for David. Creighton & Iowa State would not be but they are generally quality programs. ISU had a shocking turnaround this past season in the Big XII.
Hopefully these visits will help David realize that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. But if that's what he feels i best for him, I wish him nothing but the best.

Granted Butler did struggle this year, but just 2 years ago they were almost in the Elite 8 in a close loss to Oklahoma, and we all know what UW-Milwaulkee had a Sweet 16 appearance this year. Not that its a great desicion....but the Horizon League does make some noise, unlike us in the Big South

He is also on the table with Butler, Creighton and ... If he can got o Creighton and get some PT, then he should definatly go. It would be a mistake if he didn't. They're gonna be good next year, so hopefully the year after that, when he would be eligible, he would be on a team that could get an at large bid.

Creighton is in Omaha, NE for those that care. Yuck. I've had to spend over two weeks there covering College World Series and I couldn't imagine spending one more day in that lousy town. Big fun is crossing the river to Council Bluffs to blow money at the casinos. Not my idea of where I'd want to spend three years (the first without playing). But to each his own.
Creighton is always above average in their league and they have been enjoying some terrific success the past couple of year. But they are not a slam dunk to win that league year in & year out. You just have a chance at an at-large if everything falls into place.

tick tock
I can't debate that those programs are better, but I think an LU tourney bid may be statistically more probable due ONLY to the fact that you only have to win the BSC- less competition.

Spoke with Dunton the other day and he is very optimistic about the upcoming season. He is hiring a coach off of Pete Guillen's staff at UVA that has some connections with major players. They may be getting a 6-10 Croatian kid for next year. He told me he is also in on a 6-7 David Dees type out of Ohio. There has been a lot going on the past couple of months with the program. If they can sign a couple of these recruits, they could compete for the title again next season. I talked with Leo Lightbourne last week in the LaHaye Center and he says that he may be going to Spain or Turkey. He has some teams interested in him. Woodson may be going to New Zealand really soon as well.

I talked with Leo Lightbourne last week in the LaHaye Center and he says that he may be going to Spain or Turkey. safe places to travel these days as an American. Tell him to wear a disguise or at least claim to be French or something. So did all the defectors leave?

Remember, Leo is not an American. He is from the Bahamas and has an accent. Spain is not as bad as the Middle East but they did have a major incident in 2002....I know Clarke and D-ickey are still leaving but Doug Stewart and Rashaad Robinson are staying. Doug has a lot of potential to be really good but I think he needs to relax and do the things he does well and build some confidence back in his game. He should get more time if Dees winds up leaving. I am still holding out hope that he will return to the fold like the Prodical Son.

I would do Spain in a heartbeat if I was Leo but Turkey on the other hand is suicide waiting to happen. If Dees wants to transfer he needs to go ahead and bounce. He is selfish and obvious not the brightest individual. It must be more than just basketball. I know it can be hard to play for Coach Dunton at times in more ways than one but all you have to do is fake it until you make it.

GOAT,
this may make both of us feel old along with the rest of the people on this board but players are different than they were when you played not that long ago. David is a good player and a great kid and in all my years around this program few players have enjoyed the offensive freedom that he experiences. However his efforts on both ends are continually challenged by RD and to me it seems that David takes it more personally that I would or did when I played. Quite honestly, I thought your group was not as tough mentally as individuals in my time and I am sure my predecessors felt like we were not as resilient as they were. It is difficult to yell at kids today in any context. That said, I think you need to take into account who you are dealing with and treat them that way. Knowing Coach D the way we both do you know that he is going to be tough on his players in terms of demanding the most out of them. I think that Dees feels that is not the type of environment he wants to play in. I wouldn't leave if I were him but it is his decision.

just my 2 cents guys...I like David a lot...I showed him around on his recruiting trip and we're still friends...but I know Coach D is hard on him....but no more so then anyone else who had the same ability and refuses to play D...no matter the coach they are going to ride him so he does score 30 but give up 30 also

I had every assumption that David's displeasure had to do with either his treatment by coaches or something about campus lifestyle. Whichever is it he case, I hope he does what is in his best interest and he makes his choice quickly.

Hopefully, David won't regret this decision when he really matures and has time to reflect on his college career. It won't really hit him until he turns 28 to 30 years old. Not many people know this but I was in a similar position after my Sophomore year at Liberty where I had perfect opportunity to transfer to UVA due to a number of reasons such as Internal coaching struggles in our program between Coach D and Jeff Meyer and that my girlfriend who is my wife now got pregnant. Hindsite being 20/20 I am glad I stayed because I saw how the Liberty and the coaching staff showed me unconditional love beyond basketball and was behind me 100%. I still have wonderful relationships with Coach D and Coach Meyer because I could seperate them as basketball coaches and people who truly cared for me.
