also 41 shots for the game compared to Marist taking 43 in the first half alone (thanks for that stat CHRIS) didn't help matters.

Bigby played a good game against 7 footer. Smith looked good at times. It was good to see Holland in the game. 4 point game w/ 4 minutes, they missed FT got rebound and Risher got the Technical. After that we never recovered.

Like I said, he had a couple of moving screens called on him and a few other fouls trying to handle their big men. He kept having to sit down. He had a couple of bright spots. I would like to know if anyone on our team has ever heard of boxing out. They had so many Offensive rebounds/put backs where the guys came out of nowhere to grab it. Very frustating to watch.

you know, While Monroe didnt score but 2 he actually was a pretty big asset away from the ball...he came in at the game where we were getting roughed up by every single one of their players and Monroe threw several elbows to #40 to let him know he wasnt going to let that continue...LB also threw an elbow right after a TO was called and #20 was looking for a T on LB...but the bottom line is Monroe needs to be more than a enforcer but also a scorer

but I do like that he's getting more chippy- go to see that. Coach seemed to think it was gonna take him a while considering his background.
not that I advocate random violence. Well, maybe a little. esp when you're losing

i wish i could have seen the game, but i was watching a very good hurricanes/red wings hockey game. it sounds like we had our opportunities, but again we do something stupid and it slips away. after watching VMI play last aturday, we will need to play our best to win saturday night.

"pretty big asset away from the ball"
HOM ... how can you say Russell was a big asset? The boy played 7 minutes and picked up 5 fouls!! That's not an asset, that a hindrance to the team.

How is fouling out a hindrance to the team unless you're contributing in the first place? I'd rather have him contribute in more conventional ways but if all he can do is foul instead of letting up an easy basket, I'm all for it.
But really HMO was saying his contributions weren't with points(obviously) but other things like freeing up the players who do score points with screens, or altering shots, making his man work for everything.

But really HMO was saying his contributions weren't with points(obviously) but other things like freeing up the players who do score points with screens, or altering shots, making his man work for everything. The problem was that three of those fouls were illegal screens, which are in turn turnovers which limit Liberty's possessions. The Flames took 31 fewer shots than Marist last night, and dumb turnovers like Monroe's didn't help. There's blind aggressiveness and there's smart aggression. Monroe's play was an example of the former, for sure.

yeah- that shots stat CHRIS put up was kinda stunning. Between that one and 18% shooting the other nite, there's some bad decisions being made. Hopefully more experience will rectify the situation. I'm sure Coach D was pulling his hair out over it.

I thought only 2 of the fouls were illegal screens but I'm just going by memory. Even so I would take his 3 turnovers and what he learned from it anyday over every other event that took place by 5 guys not named Monroe in the last 3.5 minutes of that game.

Why is it that excuses are made about his team being so young for their inability to win, but the Lady Flames' team is extremely young too, yet they win ... their (men's team) youth doesn't help, but I'm not sure that's the main reason for all of their losses ...

Me - Apples & Oranges. Its easier for a womens team to stand out with just a few key players. The margin of error based on talent is much smaller on the mens side.
But it is a fair question to ask.

I'm not sure I agree with this... there is a bigger gap on the women's side than the men's. It's getting better but still not as close. That's the reason why you rarely see upsets in the women's t-ney. So if our women were young and just competing in the conference that would be one thing, but they are young and playing top 20 teams close. I think it is harder for a young women's team to win because there are many more talented upperclassmen in women's hoops because so much talent either leaves or flunks out of men's basketball before being seniors. For the most part women's basketball is an upperclassman's game and men's basketball is not as much. So I would say that the youth of this team can't be an argument. Plus by now they aren't really Freshmen anymore anyway. Also, in fairness to Carey Green, he lost MUCH more after last season and the team is right back where they left off. Not quite as good yet, but they didn't even fall out of the top 100.
