I stand corrected. I didn't think Liberty would wind up matched up against St. Joesph's when the matchups were revealed. But be honest, how many of you were smiling when you saw the bracket come out with LU mathcing up with St. Joe's in the first round? Count me among those who consider the Hawks to be posers. I'm not buying their #1 seed status.
That said, I wouldn't bet the farm on a first round upset. J-Nelson is legit. But after watching my hometown Xavier Muskies dismantle the Hawks this past week. A Flames upset wouldn't leave me speechless.
Obviously, Liberty is getting more respect than you might expect not only not being slotted in the play-in game in Dayton, but also being matched up with the obvious lowest #1 seed. That means the selection committee basically thought 4 teams in the field were poorer than the Flames. I can live with that.
The really bad news is being sent to Buffalo. That is punishment in March. Yikes.

St Joe's home court seats about 3000. They were under a lot of pressure their last couple games to finish undefeated in the reg season. Then, in their first A 10 tournament game they went down by 35 at one point and ended up losing by 20 or so. Now they have to go on the road where hopefully the crowd will be rooting for the underdogs. Could be interesting. I just watched St Joe's coach on TV. He's knows nothing about LU but was told today by a Big South coach that LU is very hot/cold. Haven't been around LU in quite awhile myself to know. LU grad in Philly

Hey Jeff ... thanks for posting. Nobody knows anything about Liberty nationwide. And frankly after their Jekyll & Hyde performances this season, 1 or 2 game films won't help the Hawks coaching staff prepare much for them. Just thought you guys might be interested to see the beating the St. Joes folks are taking on their ESPN board: boards.espn.go.com/cgi/ncaa/request.dll?LIST&room=col_2603&messagID=3643endYikes. Zero respect. Thats either a forebearer of great news for the Flames or Tech/Charlotte or its creating an "Us against the World" mentality that could propel them far in the tourney. We'll see.

Unfortunately Billy Packer did Liberty no favors. St Joe's was really fired up to prove him wrong. Having a case of the jitters didn't help either.
