in keeping with the recent griping about mis-reporting or just general laziness: I'd like to know what the relevance of TV sports reporting is at this point. I sat this morning and watched one of the cable news shows (CNBC, MSNBC, I don't remember which) and was irritated that NONE of their sports stories were anything other than rehashed stuff I read online YESTERDAY.
They misrepresented it all as facts THEY dug up, without ONE mention of the fact that it was nearly WORD for WORD off ESPN.com and/or FOX Sports.com.
Ridiculous- whats the point of paying these idiots?

I don't think that it's TV sports reporting that is irrelevant, but that those two channels are pretty much irrelevant, and not channels that anyone should consider watching to get your sports news. Stick with FoxSports, ESPN, or the NFL Network (which I want sooo bad) for your sports news. And if you only want to see it once, you have the internet.

Those news channels read their copy right off the AP wire and many internet stories are from the AP wire which is why it was word for word. Those channels are assuming that their viewers are not hard core sports fans so they dumb down their reporting and gloss over all the signifcant details you are used to getting from Fox Sports or ESPN. Watching MSNBC for sports is similar to watching Weekend Update on SNL for news. I know I sound like a spokesperson for Direct TV all the time but Alumnus if you want the NFL channel, Direct has it. Plus as I stated on other threads, the NFL Sunday Ticket is the greatest if you love pro football.

yup- love my DirecTv. And it was CNN Headline news, I was surfing and came upon it. Believe me, I tune in to ESPN news for the real stuff.

"What's the relevance of TV sports reporting"? It keeps my bills paid.
As stated before, those guys on Headline News & MSNBC aren't real sports guys. They are models who can smile nicely while reading a teleprompter with wire copy on it.

Hey, as we've learned from our unfortunate "Boom goes the dynamite" friend, that teleprompter stuff ain't easy.

Actually, I believe the prompter went down and that was the primary cause for that disaster in Indiana. Poor kid. I heard he turned down an appearance on Letterman because he's so embarassed. He should embrace the moment.
"... and he throws it to the man ..."

This kid could clean house. I'm sure a cable network would hire him. Boom goes the dynomite is all that is wrong with sportscasting today. He's showed the world that our sportscenter friends can really just say any catch phrase and get away with it. If this kid were on TV, I'd watch him. At least until I was sure he wouldn't screw up anymore.

I don't know if I would watch that kid every night or anything but we would probably toon in to see how he folds under the pressure. Boom goes the dynamite still cracks me up though. Sly I think you are right about that teleprompter going down. I have never had to read copy but don't you also have what is on the teleprompter written on your pages too? What a disaster. If I was him I would embrace the moment as Sly said. Going on Letterman would be cool for sure. It is not like that clip has not been seen by millions. He might as well make the most out of it.
