We're now in the last month of the regular season. I've been thinking about the "what ifs". Like what if Woodson hadn't messed up in school 2 semesters ago. What if the NCAA hadn't waited so long to rule on Turner. What if Lightbourne's lightbulb came on earlier. What if we had hit our stride a lot earlier.
Two things we do know: Maryland is a very inconsistant team, NC State is a very crappy team.
Not that we would have beaten Maryland but they slaughtered us. and that shouldn't have been so. I honestly believe that we could have beaten NCSU if all of the above had occoured. Even if it hadn't I still think we got blown out by more than we ever should have. Yes yes, hodge is good. But that team isn't. That would have been a huge leap forward for the entire program.

Ahhh ... the "What if" thread. I wasn't expecting this until the offseason.
In all honesty, most of the games I regret the most don't involve Maryland or NC State (New Hampshire and several nailbiters in the BSC come to mind). I think if we played the Terps ten times this season, we would probably only lose by varying degrees. As for the Wolfpack, sure they have been a major disappointment. But we were even moreso on our own level at that point in the season for the reasons you listed. We're not going to be able schedule ACC schools late enough in the season for us to be hitting stride.
Speaking of that stride, let's face it. The Big South has a way of healing all ills and masking our continued weaknesses. As a result, we still can continue to improve and find ourselves right back where we want to be if we stay focused on the task at hand.
And as Scar mentioned in another thread, our struggles this year will help us get some more games scheduled where we have the potential to be giant-killers.
