This is from an update I get in the gamenotes. You can go to the Libertyflames.com website and click on Men's basketball and get the game notes. The link never works for me on my computer but I get it emailed to me so it doesn't matter. Just in case the link doesn't work here is a brief summary:
Justin Holland, PG Atlanta, GA 6-1 175 Landmark Christian. 16ppg 7assts
Anthony Smith, SG Plano, TX 6-4 185 Plano East High 16.4ppg 6.0rpg Recruited by TCU, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas Little Rock, Texas St. UNC Wilmington
Tyler Baker 6-8 190, Albuquerque, NM Temple Baptist Academy. 25ppg 10rpg 6asst
All of these stats are from their Junior year. I don't know that much about Smith or Baker but I have seen Justin Holland (on ESPN last season vs the Howard kid that was picked # 1 overall in the NBA) and he is pretty sound. Comes from a great family too. Should compete for a starting job with Risher next season at point.

The Smith kid gets high marks from my friends on the summer circuit down here in Texas. Most were surprised that he chose Liberty just as his stock was beginning to rise.

Coach Leary with another Steal!!!! Steph (my old roomate and friend) does a great job in TX. There have been a host of players come out of there over the years and even when Steph wasn't on Staff when he coached high school ball down there he helped LU get players out of TX. I have heard good thins about Smith too. Right now we have Rell Porter, Evan Risher, Elijah Miller (played at U of Houston) and Rashad Robison (from NJ but played at San Jacinto in JUCO) from TX. When I coached we had Gabe Caldwell (no relation to Chris...or Gabe Martin for that matter , Marcus White (who some have in their top 10 of all time), Larry Jackson and I helped recruit Nick Wright and Christian Rios. Phil Ward and Caldwell both played for Hankinson and I know there are a few others.

Oh, and Nathan Day and Jeremy Day moved to TX I think before they got to LU. But I am not sure about them. That is when I wasn't around the program much

Stephon coached a summer team down here in Houston and his connections remain invaluable. I have some great contacts on both the high school and AAU sides in Houston. Most of whom Stephon and I both know well.
So you recruited Nic Wright and Gabe as well over in the Austin area. I was covering sports over there when they played ball at Leander & Bowie high schools respectively. I also covered the LU-Texas game at the Erwin Center back in '97. Gabe had just quit the team and Nic lit up the Drum trying to show Penders who should have given him a ship. Nic's Uncle Joey was an incredible point guard for the infamous BMW era of Runnin' Horns basketball under Penders that reached the Elite Eight.

One the subject of recuits, Scar, Curious what your impression is of Russell Monroe. It's a shame they could not have redshirted him this season. I think he is 2 years away from really contributing. Like a lot of freshmen he seems lost on the court at times and he is slow. He did show a nice short jumpshot in the New Hampshire game. I wonder if they will redshirt him next season?

V88,
it is of course too late to redshirt Russell and quite honestly they are going to have to use him before it is all over. Like tonight when Glen and Leo and Rashad got into foul trouble. Plus the fact that he can play now I think. Yes he is lost at times but if it were me, I would put him in and play zone and just have him around the basket on D and on O I would just go 4 on the perimeter and keep him on the block. He is learning and he is a great kid. Ray Jones and me always get excited when he enters the lineup. I think he is going to be special sooner rather than later. I am on the outside looking in so I don't really know what they will do with him as far as Redshirting him next season but he could be really good next year. I mean look at the improvement of CJ Walker (7-1 center at Asheville) over the past year. Some guys just need to play and learn on the job. The coaching staff is solid though so they know what they are doing.

Scar, Good comments on Monroe. I am not down on the kid at all. I think he will contiribute in the future. He had a nice blocked shot in the Ashville game and took a good shot even though it didn't go in. I'm just a believer that if you have the personnel (which LU didn't this season because of Turner's uncertainty) it's good to give a player like Monroe a redshirt year to learn the system. I agree with you on using him in a zone defense. Good luck convincing coach Dunton to use more zone.

I think Russell needs to be playing as much as possible. He has solid skills and great hands. Next year I think he'll give us an inside presence that people will have to defend tightly. Finally a big man with a medium-range shot. Russell could be very consistent if he could just get more playing time.

Hey thanks for the info guys. There doesn't seem to be too much information on the internet about these guys right now. Justin Holland showed up on Rivals.com as a 2 star recruit. I thought that was pretty interesting. Absolutely nothing on the Baker kid. His stats look impressive from what was posted. The kid from Plano, Texas popped up a couple times but no real information on him either.

Mountainair drew Temple in the first round Jan. 6 and lost 70-11. With frenzied defense, the 'Stangs actually took a 4-0 lead against the Roadrunners. Mathew Chavez scored with a running hook shot through the lane at 7:10. And Azan Chavez followed with a long 2-pointer. Riley, with 5:40 left, scored from the baseline to give Mountainair a 6-3 advantage. It really seemed as if the winless Mustangs were going to hang with the towering private-school boys. But Temple's David Gullett hit a trey at 4:30 to tie it up, the Roadrunners' 6-8 wingman Tyler Baker (19 points) got a layup at 4:15, and the Baptists never looked back.
