yep. it's true. I hate to see that for the kid but rules are rules. he must have broken a good one because I thought Dunton's statement was pretty firm.

We've been hearing for some time now that he was struggling to stary qualified. Obviously, summer school didn't go well.
Its too bad. The kid had great upside on the court and in life. Hopefully he is able to get on track academically and can get in somewhere else.
It certainly opens the door for playing time ofr the JUCOs and our home-schooled phenom.

man, that blows. I never got to see what he could do. It's good to see our program has some values and integrity though. You always kinda wonder if players are coasting through academics and/or rules, and you don't know until something like this happens. Good for us. I guess that just means more PT for Monroe. Naismith award, here he comes.

Sly you mentioned Elijah's upside off the court. I may have read too much into Dunton's statement. I guess it is foreign to me how these kids can struggle so much academically. Have you heard Elijah is a good citizen overall - i hope that's the case and he'll rebound somewhere.

This is strictly an academics issue unless you hear otherwise. Elijah's rep down here in Houston is of a very upstanding guy. Hopefully, he's able to work something out. He gave a year to our school while waiting on his eligibility. Hopefully he was able to take some positives away from this disappointing turn of events.
Good luck, Elijah.

Good to hear. I wish him well and I hope that he can find a place to find his nitch and go on to be a success in whatever he chooses to do.
Thanks for the input Sly.

It is a shame to loss such a great prospect. I had him being our next Peter Aluma. Oh well. But give Coach Dunton some credit. As a christian university you must make sure that athletes abide by the rules and if they are broken then they must face the consequences. Judging by Duntons statement it appears it was pretty serious. Hopefully we can pick up a late JUCO or hope that Rashad Robinson can develope into the player he was meant to be.

yeah, didn't sound like "poor academic performance" to me either. you can work with that , but reading this sounds more like a fatal transgression/violation of "the Way". "inability to live within the guidelines and policies of Liberty University"
"Cause and effect leads to consequences"H'burg, I don't think you read TOO MUCH into that at all. Reading Comp 101. libertyflames.com/mbball/news.asp?news_id=2635

I hope I am wrong. Maybe it was a class attendence issue that led to poor academic results?

sounds like that would be a best case scenario at this point, but its all conjecture until someone connected comes on here and explains the whole mess. (if ever)

Whatever it was unfortunately Elijah got what he deserved. It sounds like academics and other things as well. I was looking forward to see what he would bring to the hardwood

I know that was a joke...I hope.

I just remember being in the housing office when Russell Monroe, when asked who he wanted to room with, said "Not Elijah"

That's funny! Elijah is a good guy, I've had a chance to meet him and play with him in pick up games. He has a long way to go as a basketball player, but he had made significant strides to become a solid player on the court but not off of it. I wish him nothing but the best. He will probably head back home. I'll try to find out where he's going.

Somehow word of Elijah's departure made it to one of the Houston boards: Coogfans

As for his potential next stop, my guess would be he goes the Rod Nealy route. He'll probably be enrolling at HBU right away. He'd do well playing for Coach Cottrell.

Sly, Rod Nealy? Is that the guy who went to Baylor and didn't work out? If so I played against him in high school he played at Worthing if this is the same guy he was pretty good.

He's the one and the same. After leaving Baylor, he played some JUCO before settling in at HBU. There he was way out of his league. He dominated NAIA ball being named NAIA National Player of Year while averaging just under 40 points & 20 boards a game. He had HBU #1 in nation before they were upset in the National Tourney in KC. I wouldn't be shocked if Elijah wound up there as well.
