Not impressed with our 64-61 win over Athletes in Action. I understand they are supposed to be good (all from DI schools, some in a couple foreign pro leagues, etc...) but we couldn't make a 3-pt. basket all night. Bright spots: Megan Frazee looked awesome, KP showed she's got potential, as did Leslie Jones. Didn't see much of Molly, and Moriah seems to have trouble with the ball not going through the rim...Maybe she just shoots it too hard, I dunno. But yeah, we definitely need some improvements if we want to continue ownership of the Big South Conference.

Thanks for the report. Keep in mind that exhibitions are basically scrimmages against someone else. Its a chance to shake off the cobwebs and see how the newbies perform against real competition.
I won't be surprised if we struggle a bit early on in this season. We have two many new faces to have instant chemistry.

That is why teams play these games to see where a team is in terms of what was good and what needs to be worked on. Unfortunately I wasn't at the game but got updates from one of the fans during the game. A lot of exhibition games are ugly this time of the year. UCONN women's basketball team struggled against Houston Jaguars and barely won. Not trying to compare LU to UCONN but every team will have a lot to work on this time of the season.

I disagree... I was happy with tonight's effort just shy of saying that I was impressed. We shot 22% in the first half against a good team. If we shoot our average from last season then we would have won by 15 or 20. In fairness it was our first organized game and AIA's fourth, so from that standpoint I think we have a lot to be happy with. Those shots will eventually fall...also keep in mind that we have 5 new faces and have only been practicing as a team for 3 weeks.
Our defense was also tough...forcing TO's and getting on the floor. We were able to secure the win taking a charge. We also were plus 17 on rebounds...that's the main reason for our success the last several years and it's good to see a strong start on the glass this year. When you can shoot poorly and still figure out a way to ink out a win...that's the sign of a good team. Certainly don't want to be too optimistic but I like this team. Once they gel...they will be good. Let's just hope they turn into Jell-O quickly.
It will be tough to win any of the big games early (UNC, Va Tech) but by conference time I can't imagine a team that can take the trophy from us... a game or two maybe...but with the talent on this team and Carey's ability to teach the game...don't be surprised if the conference is a cakewalk again.
Also, the one player that may have been under the radar a bit but can make an instant impact on this team is Rachel Hammond...she can get to the basket and will fight for a lot of playing time.
From a talent level...this team is on par with the last 4 years. The experience isn't there yet and that can be costly...but there is no question this team is head and shoulders better that the team Carey had the year after the twins graduated and the year before Katie...let's remember how that team did in a very similar Big South Conference...oh yea... 12-2.

There was a fan who gave me updates while at the Vines Center. This person told me there were some things that were good especially on defense. That encouraged me some. At least we found a way to win. I am loving this style of play of up and down the floor. I saw the stats sheet and saw us shoot a lot of free throws so I guess we were attacking the basket a lot more. FSN32 anything you want to add to this?

Attacking the basket and the boards... a ton of offensive rebounds. Moriah and Megan both had 5 O-boards and did a good job of getting to the FT line. There is going to be some good pressure on the Sophs and Juniors b/c these Freshmen are going to fight for PT. I'm just curious of how much we see this during the season...

I definitely believe that for a fact. This is the best class that LU has had I think. This team is quite deep this year.

That shot is ultra-cool. There can't be many times that has ever occurred in Division I college sports.

I have a nice little system for figuring out which triplet is which (having put numbers to names now): If I run into one of the triplets, ask them their jersey number, and when they tell me, match the name with the jersey number and then offer the appropriate greeting.

If you are going to ask them their jersey number... why not just ask them their name???

WEll of course I'll ask their name...Im not stupid...its just until I get the hang of which is which since they are virtually identical

Actually two of them are identical. I talk to them on a regular basis. I can tell them apart even when they are seperated. Megan told me that Molly and Moriah are identical. These girls are nice girls. I met their dad and he is a nice person too.

I'm guessing they don't like being referred to as "40", "41", and "42".
although the Bush's (prez 41 and 43) DO.

Oh I don't call them that. I use their names. I just use the numbers as a point of reference since they look so similar

They don't wear their numbers all the time though... OK I have to admit I'm officially confused by your last few posts Flamesfan.

Ok. I have a bit of a short term memory problem (due in large part to some heavy yet accidental contact to the head growing up). So I often will use whatever I can to commit things to memory. In the case of the triplets, I use their jersey numbers. When it comes to remembering people's names, I always search for some sort of item so that I won't forget. A mnemonic device if you will. Im not literally expecting them to be wearing their jerseys on all the time silly

maybe you could convince them to tatoo the numbers on their foreheads. Or at least shave the numbers into their heads. Just tryin to help out here.
